Plex 1.18.1.1973 Recordings Not Successfully Completing

Server Version#: 1.18.1.1973
Player Version#: NA

Looks like we’re having problems with recordings not finishing, unfortunately. A .grab\{id} folder is created but no media is found within it or the target library.

Any assistance towards tracking this sucker down would be greatly appreciated.

I got a little brave and started looking through the logs. In com.plexapp.system.log I am seeing a bunch of:

KeyError: 'com.plexapp.agents.plexmusic'

Which is strange as we’re recording TV Shows and Movies. In particular, the errors seem to be occurring in a Movie Library. I did try to manually record a TV Show and that seemed to work fine.

Unfortunately in doing so it deleted the .grab\{id} folders from the Movies directory so I do not have the IDs of the failed movies to search the logs with, boh.

The Plex Media Server.log would probably give more info regarding the .grab folder.

Compare the permissions between the TV Show library path and your Movie.

Indeed! Here is what I found:

Oct 24, 2019 00:30:25.642 [1744] DEBUG - DVR:Grabber: Operation for 'Station West (1948)' on channel 41.3 completed with status error (Recording failed. Please check your tuner or antenna.)

Upon inspection I see that the channel and subsequent subchannels are loading in Plex for some reason, which is strange as it is only a few miles away.

Seems like this would be visible from the DVR Schedule view in great big flashing icons. :stuck_out_tongue: Along those lines, Station West is nowhere to be seen in the history. Seeing on how Plex is usually very good about cleaning up the .grab folder… perhaps this is still a bug?

In the US, have to keep an eye on the Channel Repacks, phase 6 just finished and 7 has started. Might take time for the EPG to catch up.

Looks like I have some research to do. :stuck_out_tongue: I went ahead and rescanned and the channels that were missing are now back. Hopefully this repacking isn’t something that happens often. It would still seem that this is a bug in Plex, and would show a disruptive and obvious exception such as this in the GUI somewhere.

It’s definitely disruptive - it impacts pretty much every OTA TV tuner if you are in an area where at least one channel switched frequencies, which seems to be the majority of the US. On the plus side the government generated over $18 billion from the spectrum auction, so in theory we don’t have to pay that in taxes (?!?!?!?!)

This is a link to the FCC page with more info, and more usefully this page allows you to look up stations in your area for timelines on repacks so you can be proactive and know when you are going to need to rescan. Once you look up your location, click on each channel listed and look for the “Repacking Dates” info.

Hahaha… GOV’T will always get its taxes as death will always get its soul.

FWIW, when I meant “disruptive” I meant in Plex itself. It would seem that if a recording cannot complete due to a channel not being transmitted as expected, an error would be shown in the UI somewhere.

As it is now, I have to muck with logs and pester with posts on this forum BUT HEY I GET TO MAKE FRIENDS.

Please advise how to roll back to 1.18.0.1944-f2cae8d6b - when I tried to install it over 1.18.1.1973 I got a message saying I couldn’t revert to an earlier version.

Thanks for your help, all good now.
