I lost several 2fa apps when I trusted google authenticator to back them up to the cloud… unfortunately found out it doesn’t -after- I factory reset that phone. So that options out. And I can’t for the life of my find any recovery codes I usually note them in a few places and I can’t find them saved anywhere. I can still login with google and use my currently logged in apps but I’d like to reset my 2fa so I can write down new auth codes and readd it to authy this time as that backs up across devices.
Plex 2fa turned on, authenticator is lost and so are recovery codes. Have access to email and server
Similar story here. Cant edit anything other than password without codes. Can’t change MFA without codes. Can’t reset MFA without codes. No, nil, zero help in forums that I could find. Should be a Plex support system for security related issues, not community based. Anything support related will be ignored (their words) if filling in the forms on the support page. Hoping that someone who actually works for them sees this thread and takes note… or another user has been through this and has a magic way to fix… not holding my breath for either.
No it won’t. Because in this case it is related to the user account and not a technical issue with the server or clients.

Warning!: Make sure that you copy and store these recovery codes in a safe place that you can access without your mobile device. If you lose your authenticator app, a recovery code allows you to sign in to the Plex account! These are single-use codes.
Can I have verification codes sent to my email address?
If you lose access to both your authenticator app and your recovery codes, you can have a single-use code sent to the email address that’s associated with the Plex account. To do so:

Hi Otto
Thank you for your assistance. You’ll have to excuse my grumpiness. Spent a week sorting all passwords for every login… I was a little tired =)
I will dig into your links and hope to sort soon.
Thanks
Otto, thanks for this post. I am in a similar situation. Plexpass since 2014, recovery codes and authenticator gone. Tried to get a single use code sent to my email, but nothing is showing up. Plex email addresses are whitelisted, nothing is in spam and it is not a hotmail address. The email address on file works as I am able to send emails to it from another account. Wondering if you can help or have any insight into the fact that I am not receiving the one time email. Appreciate any help and thanks in advance.
Wait! Does Plex have beef with hotmail addresses? I’m not in this situation but I may or may not or may or may not (repeat as necessary) or may or may not have a hotmail address I use to sign up for things which is separate from my primary email address.
Your email address has bounced before, so it was on a block list.
Make sure that you can receive email on that address (I somewhat doubt it, considering the domain), then try again.
Thanks for helping Otto, I tested the email address on file, I can receive emails sent to it from a different account - so it is working. Since you see the issue, what’s the best course of action? I can’t change the email address without the recovery code and temp codes are not being sent to the address on file. Again, I very much appreciate your help here.
You’ll have to contact our billing department, that handles account related issues
