I’ve noticed something odd, namely that the scraper is adding collections that do not existing at TMDB, including collection name, description and even covers. Here are a few examples:
The Eastrail 177 Trilogy > exists in Plex yet doesn’t exist in TMDB
Hulk collection (including Universal movies) > exists in Plex but not in TMDB
Justice League Collection (including Zack Snyder’s Justice League) > exists in Plex but not in TMDB
I don’t mind this automatically happening but does anyone have a idea where these collections are coming from, because they’re nowhere to be found in TMDB which was where the metadata was supposed to be coming from.
Reason why I ask is I’d like to identify the source so I can find the covers that are being used and make my own version with an Ultra HD cover version.
If anyone has an idea or if the development team can chime in, that would be very helpful. Thanks in advance!
I haven’t checked those particular collections. I did however notice in the past that collections on The Movie Database can be quite… short-lived (in particular when users create collections that are not in line with their core policies).
There’s the occasional appearance of a DC Universe, MCU or Middle Earth collection that are being deleted relatively quickly.
edit Example:
somebody added the Zack Snyder cut of Justice League to the “Man of Steel” collection on Jan 31… while it’s part of that “universe” but not that particular series, it was deleted 1 day later
The Eastrail 177 trilogy is especially egregious since it’s specifically mentioned in TMDB’s collection documentation as NOT being a TMDB ‘collection’. I was going to start being a contributer but after reading their documentation I decided it was futile. What they consider a ‘collection’ I consider a series of movies.
So I’d be o.k. with Plex taking a much more broad definition of collections. And I’m glad the Eastrail 177 trilogy is there!
You’re always able to manage collections on your own. Using the automatic approach is just paving the road to get those “series of movies” populated automatically.
With the new update you don’t even need to bother with tagging… just click ⋮ > Add to to add items to existing collection (or create new ones).
I agree with your point, but it still boggles my mind where that data is coming from. Eastrail 177 Trilogy wasn’t a collection in TMDB at the time of my scraping and wasn’t afterwards as well … yet it got added automatically in my PLEX as a collection.
Are there other sources being scraped? I would really be interested to know …
Keep in mind there’s a delay for Plex to pick up information from The Movie Database into their proxy database… this means the collection could already have been deleted up to 2 days before it popped up in your system.
I have yet to find a way to find deleted collections in The Movie Database (so far I’ve only found ways to track changes in existing records).
