I have the setting turned on to use collection info from TMDB but Plex is not pulling it for some reason. Its not pulling poster or backdrops either. Am I missing something here???
No, you’re missing nothing.
Plex does not pull additional metadata for collections – just the info, that a movie is part of a collection (and the collection name).
That makes no sense. Why even have the option if it doesn’t pull over any metadata, posters, etc?
The edit option is there - for me to add posters and backgrounds.
I’ve done hundreds - and by this time I’m pretty sure I’d be doing them all anyway - 'cause the ones at TMDB SUCK (mostly)!
These guys have some good ones:
I have to be honest. I think the way Plex has incorporated movie collections is extremely poor!
The two major issues I have are:
-
The lack of consuming available metadata from online db sources mystifies me. There is no excuse for not gathering collection data from themoviedb.org. Seems like lazy programming to me and the end user experience feels like using an unfinished feature.
-
There needs to be an option like with series where you can flatten or not apply the collection if you only have one movie in your library. It’s very annoying when you have one title that gets pulled into a collection and you have click the collection, then the one and only movie just to get to play it.
As a person that uses both Plex and Emby, I can safely say that Emby handles collections far better than Plex. (Actually, not better, just properly!)
I really hope this gets some much needed love and attention by the developers. It’s a great feature when it works, look at Emby as an example, but as it stands it really is close to useless.
Completely agree. I tried Emby out and find the admin side of things in Emby is so much easier than plex. Especially how it handles collections.
If you are using the new Plex Movie agent in version 1.20.1 or newer it does pull artwork for collections from TMDB. but it will not edit existing collections as to not screw up any custom editing someone might have done.
