Plex ads fatigue

I understand that Plex needs ads in order to make $$$. However, having 13-16 ads show up every 5 minutes is really annoying. Not only that, but every time the ads start the volume level for ads increases by some 50%. This is even more annoying and users forced to adjust volume level every time. I do not mind ads however the sheer number of them every 5 minutes and volume sky racketting is not acceptable.

This really turns me off to use Plex and watch anything on this platform. Rather I would use tubi or other providers as the experiance is so much better. Plex needs to fix that espacially the increasing volume levels. That should be an easy fix. Number of ads can also be turn down a notch.

In addition to all that:

TV shows that were made for commercial TV were paced with natural break points where ads would be inserted. All these streaming services that inject ads aren’t respecting those break points, so ads can interrupt the show in the middle of a scene, even interrupting dialog in mid-sentence. I wrote off ad-supported streaming services years ago because of that alone. If it’s also being abused with excessive numbers of breaks, and excessive numbers of ads, and no volume normalization, I see no reason to give Plex’s version a chance at all.

I agree with @beckfield in that streaming services that inject ads screw-up their streams so badly that any enjoyment is lost.

The only things I am willing to watch with commercials at all is the sports I am interested in and that 99.9% of the time is soccer and soccer has the matches never interrupted by breaks of any kind except at the half and for that mute works well.

But that is not really about streaming services that insert ads. I find no ads acceptable but I find the typical “inserted” ads horrible in the extreme.

Makes me wonder if anyone from Plex will respond here. They are definitly loosing audiance for many things included in Plex. What is the point of that if many users hold our views and steer away from things like Movies in Plex. Bad management. If Plex wants to compete with likes of Tubi or 123movies it must adjust or it will disappear soon.

All is Well in Plexland.
and
Considering Plex Ad-Supported is EXACTLY like every other Ad-Supported - there isn’t much to do about it - or it would have already been done years ago.

The fact is Ad-Supported relies on blasting audio and multiple, repeated ads you can’t escape from so:

Your Eyeballs + 1 AdView = $KaChing$.

 and that’s how it works.

IF a Million Users, today, right now, did this:

That would send a message that would ring across the Earth like an Asteroid Strike and Plex’s new All-Hands-On-Deck Mission would be to ‘Re-invent’ Ad-Supported.

Likely?
Probably not.

My main problem is the type of ad.
My daughter was watching the Smurfs today and an ad for a horror film you can stream on Plex came on. To be fair there weren’t any real horrific scenes, but that’s not the point. Plex like all streaming services offering universal/PG rated shows/films have a duty of care to ensure the correct ad goes with the show.
Also they are advertising a horror film to the wrong audience.

@Markster2020 We are aware of the volume issue with ads and are working on potential solutions. As for the amount of the ads in the time range you’ve specified, there is a lot of variables at play to how ads are delivered but that quantity seems odd. Can you confirm that quantity is being displayed in the ad count, usually in top right when there is a block of ads? Can you provide an example of a show or movie where you observed this?

@mindy76_vs Please have a look at our Parental Controls | Plex Support.

I am encouraged to see that the volume issue has been looked into. The recent movies we watched was from comedies section. At Middleton and Henry’s Crime. We have see ads counter anywhere from 7-8 up to 13-16 ads. The high count of 13 to 16 ads few times in both movies.
