Plex Airplay from iPad to Roku 4K stick

Server Version#: 4.63.0
Player Version#: 7.25

I just picked up a Roku 4k streaming stick. I have downloaded several movies from my server to the player on my iPad that I am intending to use for travel. The Roku stick is airplay compatible.

I tested playing movie on iPad. It works, no problem.

I select the cast icon in upper right, select airplay and Bluetooth devices, it finds my Roku stick. When the stick is selected, my tv screen goes to airplay. However, I just get a spinning Plex circle on my iPad when I attempt to play movie. On one attempt, my tv did show the movie poster for movie, but I have never gotten it to play on TV.

When I stop airplay, movie plays just fine on iPad.

Any ideas why it won’t actually play? Everything seems to work as it is supposed to, but no joy actually playing movie.

Would I be better off buying a lightening to HDMI cable to play directly from iPad to TV?

I’d really like to be able to watch movies on the road (hotel TVs) without needing to rely on remote access to my Plex server at home.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Can I cast/fling downloaded content to another Plex client or through Chromecast?

Casting or flinging downloaded content to another device is currently not supported.

This is a general casting/flinging restriction – not limited to Chromecast
