Hello all,
Not sure where to post this for sure but will start here. Been using plex for a couple years now and have never had an issue until a week or 2 ago. It always just worked.
I have files on my desktop computer in my house. It’s direct connected to my network. I have a Roku upstairs on wifi and all I do is use plex to watch the video files on my TV. Not doing anything remotely or streaming outside my home network.
Everything has always crystal clear HD quality. I’ve never messed with any settings. Day 1 all I did was point plex to the files and they worked.
A week or 2 ago it started showing everything pixelated. Everything is blurry. I looked at the activity and it shows 1080p video and then an arrow saying SD transcode so it’s like everything is being forced into bad quality. I have updated the plex software a few times but outside of that I am not aware of anything else that I have done or changed on my system.
I am just looking for a nudge I guess of where to start or what I might look for because as I said, I haven’t really done anything different that I can think of. I though well maybe my hard drive was getting full but there is still space, cpu isn’t high, etc.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.
It says Nearby on my server. On the Roku in the plex app it said 12 Mbps 4k for quality. I set it to Original and tried again but it is still all pixelated.
I don’t use Plex on anything else. If I stream something from the internet like Netflix or whatever there is no issue. If I play the files locally on the desktop there is no issue.
I just loaded plex on my phone here at home on the wifi and it shows HD. When I look at the activity it shows 1080p -> Direct Play instead of transcoding.
I tried turning off transcode on the server, but when I try to play the exact same file on the plex app in Roku it says it can be played via Direct Play.
Just as a follow up. I don’t know if Roku did a Plex update or not as it doesn’t notify me, but I did do a Plex server update and now everything is normal again.
Thanks for all the assistance, but apparently it was a software glitch somewhere because it started working after that last server update.
