Plex alternatives

ALTERNATIVES TO PLEX

With this new update and no news to bring back at least folders, I’d like to start a discussion for all possible alternatives out there. I’ve also been with Plex forever, have all my family devices, and set up all my sisters, parents and friends systems, which I keep up for them. As this is not user friendly and I don’t see any sign of this going away anytime soon, can anyone suggest other options for better of for worse? DEC 16, 2018

you’re a little vague about what specifically you miss (selecting all sorts of categories didn’t help either).
is this about the recent Roku update?

The only viable alternative is Emby but you are acting a bit under a misapprehension; folders exist in all categories I have looked at.
In movies click on the word “Movies” at the top of the screen while browsing a library.
In photos click on the sort field while browsing.
In videos click on “movies” while browsing.
In shows click on “TV Shows” while browsing.
In music (audio) click on “Artists” while browsing.

The resulting drop down menu has “Folders” as one of the options.

Thank you for the quick response. I had read your company’s announcement, and as cheerful as it may have been written, there seems to be an aspect that, I’m sure, will take time to make changes and try to address the concerns of those who have the biggest to gain from these changes. Hopefully the users.

Losing the plugins was most likely a large enough change for most people and as all changes, an outcry would most likely be anticipated. I’m not concerned with this change, but just wonder if perhaps the approach to streamline the interface to match with other platforms should at least be the most intuitive version? I know it seems subjective, but why not keep the basic tools easily accessible?

I do agree that you have made some good updates with the stability of the program, and thank you for that. As we all acclimate to the new format, please try to at least give the ability to find things in our native folders easily. If you have people start from their comfort zone, they will in time, get used to your new system or release an update with a tutorial for major changes. As a tutorial would be most likely more expensive in the time cycle, why not just have basic tools accessible easily?

Example: Like Nikon vs. Minolta:
Nikon used the same lens mount so all older lenses could still be attached. Minolta changed lens mounts and did not make the old lenses forward compatible. People stopped buying new Minolta cameras and eventually had to sell their business. Most people do not want to relearn to use things over and over again. Just a suggestion.

As Mr. Baley was able to assist me with finding the “Folders” option in the Roku platform, this explanation unfortunately is available in the previous update for Roku. Thank you for your response though. Your response prodded me to look further and I did find Folders on the current version, you will just have to walk through a few more steps:

FOLDERS - will use the Movies entry as the rubric for the others:

Movies: scroll down to All Movies - then go to the top right choices (ALL – MOVIES – SORT list) - click on MOVIES and choose the last entry for FOLDERS

---- suggestion is to add the FOLDERS radio button on the main movies screen next to MOVIES - COLLECTIONS - PLAYLIST - FOLDERS ------ this would solve the hunt and seek for many users

** To find the shows, music and the like, do the same on each area of choice and you will find it in the section of each page under ALL SHOWS or ALL MUSIC type language **
