This latest Roku update absolutely killed the functionality of Plex for anyone who actually organizes their own library. Instead of improving things, Plex somehow managed to make every step slower, clunkier, and less user-friendly. Let’s break it down:
Home Page:
Why am I being forced to look at Plex’s “promoted” junk, live TV, and random content I don’t own or care about? I run my own server because I don’t want that garbage. Stop shoving it down my throat. The home feed is now a cluttered billboard for Plex, not a tool for accessing my media.
Libraries:
Who thought it was a good idea to move the library list to the top? I have more than five libraries — scrolling sideways across them is awful. The old sidebar was clean, fast, and functional. Now it’s buried in a slow, clunky interface that feels like a step backwards in every way. Libraries take longer to load and features I relied on seem stripped out.
Live TV / Discover / On Demand:
Again, I didn’t ask for this. I don’t want it. The old UI let me disable these unwanted “features.” Now I’m stuck with them in my face, taking up space and slowing everything down. If I wanted live TV or ad-supported streams, I wouldn’t be running my own media server.
Overall:
This “update” is the opposite of progress. It’s slower, more bloated, and less usable than before. Plex has turned what used to be a clean, efficient app into an ad-heavy mess. It feels like Plex doesn’t care about the people who actually built their reputation — the ones who run their own servers.
Bring back the old UI. This update is a disaster. or at least give us an option to pick how we want the ui to function. or change back to the old theme
an option to select what version wold be good. where you want the library list on the top or side ok. and options to remove sections you never care about would be perfect. it was how it used to be.
How did this ever pass quality control? The new format is bad enought but my remote buttons on my Roku remote don’t work. The right arrow button will not move to let me change anything and several times it just won’t respond at all. I uninstalled, then did a new install but it did nothing to help. How do I roll back to the previous app, this is absolutely horrible.
Why on Earth did they decide to ruin the Roku app? I can’t find any of my content. We were binging some TV shows, and they’re gone! All I can find is the history and that jumbled out of sequence, jumping randomly between seasons and episodes. There’s no way to find what we actually want to watch or any of my libraries. Music is mixed with video which are mixed with a relatives shared junk that we never watch. There isn’t any apparent organization scheme.
What the hell were they thinking? This is just stupid! Here I am, feeling lousy from having my flu shot and all I wanted to do was watch some of my stuff, and it’s gone. Everything is either gone or so jumbled and disorganized to make the app useless.
Who is responsible for this? It looks like it was coded by children. I’m angry and sorry I ever bought a Plex pass. This is the worst software I’ve ever seen.
My TV shows are gone. I can’t find them anywhere. Under “Friends Activity” it lists my shows. Everywhere else, my friends stuff is presented as mine. So, it’s backwards.
rollback or a theme choice would have been a safer option really. everyone i know that uses there plex on there own stuff has been txting me asking if theres a solution to go back. since they know im the “tech guy” of the friend group
