Create an optimized version of PlexAmp for the nvidia shield.
There’s already an existing feature suggestion addressing this. I recommend you comment/vote in that thread in order to avoid distracting/dispersing votes.
I’ll therefore close this thread as a duplicate.
Edit
Re-opening this thread; apologies… there’s been some confusion due to a disconnect between title/content of that other thread.
2021 clean-up: duplicate
Thank you.
I was wondering what the other thread had to do with PlexAmp. But being new around here, I just assumed I didn’t understand the terminology.
Would like to add to this - would love to see a version of Plexamp for Amazon Fire TV and other android based TV platforms in general. Currently none exist for Fire TV at all, and the standard Plex app keeps crashing after a few songs when I try to play music.
Compared to ATV, the Plex music playin interface is atrocious‼️ I’d settle for the same interface on Android TV
It would be great if we had an app we could control on TV using the Shield or Google TV remote. Or, add the Plexamp features to the existing TV Plex app.
Plex team should share their plans for those of us that enjoy music on their TVs sound system setup, often the setup with the best audio in the house.
I also listen to a lot of my music via Plex app on Nvidia Shield.
This became even more imortant to me than it was.
For the longest time I was really unhappy with the options for playing music on my AVR - the Plex for Android TV app is clunky and for the longest time it was also seriously bugged. It’s still clunky, ugly and hard to use, but at least it works now I guess.
But then I discovered Plexamp. Sure, I needed to sideload it and needed a mouse connected to my Nvidia Shield, but at least now I had a decent solution even if it was unsupported.
Then after Version 4.63 Plexamp stopped working as a local music player on the Nvidia Shield. You could only cast to it from another Plexamp client, and the display, while not as bad as the Android TV Plex client, was not as good as the local Plex client.
OK. So I did not ever update the Plexamp client on my Shield. Not the latest version, not supported, but still a solution.
Now I have just got a Google TV Streamer 4k. Very exciting, since after 5 years there is finally something that seems as good as, or maybe better than the 2019 Nvidia shield and a TV Box.
BUT NOW EVEN SIDELOADED Plexamp 4.63 doesn’t work properly! I can only cast to it!
Can we please have a player that does the great things that Plexamp does that runs locally on a TV Box. If it requires a mouse to work, then so be it. It’s better than requiring a phone with Plexamp on it. Why should someone need to install an app and create an account in order to use my TV?
That is not going to happen now they are going to split up the Plex app and move the music to Plexamp and photos to the photo app.
I can’t imagine that this hasn’t been requested before, but I’d love to see Plexamp ported to Firestick. The Plex app isn’t the best way to play music. Is this in the works? Thanks.
With the announcement of VegaOS being Linux-based for the new Fire devices, does this increase the chances of getting Plexamp on Amazon?
