[Feature Request] Plexamp for Android TV

Can we assume it’s coming? I’ve been a little disappointed with the standard Plex music interface on my NVidia Shield and I was hoping there would be an easy way to sideload Plexamp. Can we get a link to an akp for early adopters?

What I really want is to not have to turn on my TV at all to play music. IE: Remote control of the Plex player on the NVidia shield via my phone, and music comes out of the AV speakers. I suspect that’s a little more work. Chromecast might work here, assuming you could pass the stream description along.

Yes please, would be nice on Android TV and maybe then the rating system ist working with the remote…

Sorry, no plans at the moment. Big screen + remote nav is a bit of a different universe

Can we get an apk URL to sideload it? Thanks!

What about a Google cast option instead so we can cast to android tv

Yes, in the least, Chromecast would be a very welcome addition to Plexamp, especially since it has far superior radio / mix features as compared to the iOS / Android Plex apps.

I share the enthusiasm for plexamp functionality on Android TV. If not the app, at least Chromecast like the mobile Plex app. The best speakers in my house are in my entertainment system (I assume I’m not alone in this), so that is where I prefer to listen to my music. Plexamp is a much better music player than standalone Plex.

Chromecast definitely.

Sideloaded and ran correctly, but I couldn’t figure out how to get the visualization to work on either the Shield or my Phone. Is there full screen visualization?

How do I go about side loading this on my nvidia shield?

How u do this cause my shield says I dont have an app to do this when I try to sign in

Honestly, I’m not sure it’s worth the trouble, but you need a couple of things:

  1. A mechanism to sideload APK files (X-plore + a SMB share)

  2. A mechanism to launch sideloaded apps (Sideload Launcher)

  3. A mechanism to force Android landscape mode (Set Orientation)

  4. A mechanism to install APKM files (APKMirror Install)

  5. Nvidia Shield TV installed on your phone (or some sort of keyboard/mouse setup) for UI input

  6. Install X-plore and Sideload Launcher from the Google store if you haven’t already. Give X-plore permissions to install unsigned apps

  7. Download apk for APKMirror and Set Orientation from apkmirror.com. Put them on your SMB share.

  8. Use X-plore to open the apk files on your SMB share and install the apps. Give APKMirror permission to install unsigned apps

  9. Use slideload launcher to launch APKMirror

  10. Find and install Plexamp from APKMirror

  11. Use the Trackpad feature of NVidia Sheild app to manipulate the UI of Plexamp.

I seem to remember I couldn’t paste my password into NVidia keyboard from LastPass, which made getting it setup a little painful, but I finally got there and was able to play music. Not sure it was worth the trouble. Thinking the cast solution is what I really want. That way I don’t even need to turn my TV on. I just want the music coming out of the Shield.

Cast will be great as long as it supports Smooth Fades and Volume Normalisation, which it currently doesn’t (when casting from Plex for Android, for instance). This is a different issue to why Plex for Android TV doesn’t support those features natively (given that it’s exactly the same APK, installing on fundamentally the same OS) as Chromecast works by handing off the playing to a client actually running on the Chromecast device and that doesn’t handle the goodiez yet. (Correct me if I’m wrong Elan, please.)

I tried it via ADB install, but wasn’t able to sign in.

I didn’t try with all the other apps you indicated.

Shield or some other device? For me the pain was typing the password, but it did finally work.

shield tube, it doesn’t even pop up a user/pass dialog or anything. nothing to type into.

Wish I could vote for this feature! +1

My stereo is hooked up to my TV instead of my phone. No bluetooth on my stereo.

Tried side-loading it but i couldn’t install it on my Ematic Jetstream Android TV Box. The apk from my phone probably wasn’t compatible.
