Plex and Live TV is not working for me

So here is a stupid question. Could be something I am doing.

I have plex running on windows 10 64bit. It is the latest version of windows.
Plex version is: 1.7.2.3878

So I got the HDHomerun extender and the Mohu indoor antenna.
Plugged in my HDhomerun extend and the Mohu indoor antenna. Turned on plex and when to DVR (beta). Click Click on Set-up DVR and followed the on screen instructions. Plex found the channels and made the program guide. All is well so far.

When I got to the Program Guide, I can see all the channels available. Tells me what is on air right now, what will soon start, etc.
But when I try to watch my Live TV, I can not. All I get is able to record.

What am I doing wrong? Any help would be great.

You can only watch Live TV on iOS devices (iPads/iPhones) not ATV-and Android TV devices (Sheild, etc.) not Android mobile.

What client were you trying to use it on?

at 1:35 it says that you can do this on Android TV and iOS devices.

because of this, I am using andriod TV. More specifically, nVidia Shield TV.

Ok, a couple of things to try

Log out of the plex client on the Sheild and log back in.
Stop and start your Plex server.

If those don’t work probably going to need logs.

What is the version of the Plex app on the Shield TV?

I’ve got this issue too - latest Plex and latest 5.2 update to Shield. I can only see Record, no Watch button :frowning:

Just wondering, has this got anything to do with me running on a Linux host rather than Windows host? The version on Linux is apparently “up-to-date” I.E. 1.7.2.3878 though?

Update - just checked and the version matches that of the latest Windows, so I suspect version is not the problem :frowning:

you pretty much nailed it. I actually just got the update yesterday for the nVidia Shield. I didn’t realize that there was an updated needed for this.

After I installed the updated, everything is working as it is supposed to.

Thanks for the prompt reply. The plex forums are awesome and so is the app.

No, that’s a very old version. 5.10 is the latest public release from the play store.

Aha! I’d thought it auto updated - will try and get the latest version - thanks!

The only Plex I can find on my Shield is classed as a system app (I presume this is ok?) - I’ve then gone to Play and it says Plex is compatible with my Shield so I’ve asked it to install … but nothing so far on the Shield.
Just in case I’m being stupid, is there anything else I need to do to trigger the update to go on?

Ok, I tried to load another app just to see what happened and that didn’t download either. Just signed out and then back in again with my Google account and will wait for a bit and see what happens!

both of my nVidia shields TV just got the 5.2 update. I was still having some issues with mine but I decided to delete it under the DVR section. and than re-add it again and all is going well. What I did different this time than last is when it prompted me to scan the channels I did once again, even though the channels were there. The final thing I did was let it build the whole programming guide, which is the last step in the set-up. Yes I know it take a long time, but once I did that, it cleared up a lot of things for me. Such as displaying the same channel 5-6 times.

It looks like some of the issues I was having was due to me having HDHomeRun server installed elsewhere on the network. I suspect they were clashing talking to the HDHomeRun. I’m still “playing” to see how well I can get it to work on my stuff but so far I am getting only a few crashes. Much more positive!

Once we get to the stage where t’s pretty stable and we can pause/rewind live TV etc. I will look at moving across to using Plex for live TV :slight_smile:
