Plex and My Music.....a massive screw-up

Okay, i’ve had a collection of MP3s for years. Other media sources handle them fine so it’s not on my part (MediaMonkey, KODI, ect). But when i add my MP3s into Plex, it screws up like i’ve never seen. It really like classifying my music as “various artists” rather than listing them as they should be and, even then, it takes Queen music and puts Quiet Riot artwork on it, ect.

Why is PLEX so unable to correctly identify and, even then, list them normally? I know someone is going to say, “You have to set it like this” but here’s the important part…i shouldn’t have to. I throw movies in and it gets everything without any alteration.

Ensure your folder structure is set up in a way that works well with Plex: https://support.plex.tv/articles/200265296-adding-music-media-from-folders/

Same issue here. New music scanner is a major step backwards. I don’t recall this with prior ones. Why it can’t just read the tags and work is beyond me.

Yeah, i gotta say that’s laughable. Basically, all those other players, media centers just “know” and i have to restructure over 2000+ songs just because PLEX is incapable of reading ID3 tags directly and knowing the music.

No, i think i’ll just leave PLEX out of the music.

Yep. Think they’re stuck in the “well it’s fine for me” lala land. Wish this was open source so we could fix it ourselves.

Yeah, i never saw a community so ready to fall in line.

WHat happens if you go to “fix match” (or whatever it’s called in english), does it find the right artist/album then?

Have you tried remaking your library (or testing to create a new if you don’t want to destroy the old yet)?

Just to rub it in a bit ( ) I just want to say that I have arond 700 albums and I can’t remember having any problems with Plex matching them, excluding a few cases where the tags where wrong, the files were misspelled and stuff like that.

Shouldn’t have to. You’re missing my point. The other 99% of the players don’t have to do this, my movies are in the same directory type format as my music and it’s been that way for more than a decade. I have (MP3s) and the directories are A,B,C,D,E ect and I don’t plan on restructuring them for any app. And to go and “fix” over 2000+ songs is ludicrous to have to even envision doing that. So Plex sees the movies fine but not the music and the directories are structured EXACTLY alike and the rest of my players see my music with no problem. So, rub it in or rub it out, the problem lies with PLEX wanting me to do things it’s way or it won’t work.

The point is, PLEX should already be able to see the music as easily as it sees the movies. I go to MediaMoney, JRiver, Foobar 2000, ZenPoint Media Center…none of these have the same problem PLEX does. No matter how you slice it, PLEX can’t do the job without me either re-structuring, spending too much time tweaking, or bending to it’s limitations. All of those other players get the tags right. PLEX gets a few albums and junks it into “various artists”. There’s and old rule about when something works that badly with one app and so easily with the other masses, the problem is with the app in question.
