Plex and VPN options that work

Hello, it has come to my attention that I need to get a VPN on the computer that I host my Plex service. I have some questions concerning this and I was hoping this is the right place to ask.
I am currently using ExpressVPN and I have noticed some major issues it has to Plex while running, I have ExpressVPN going “around” plex and I can remotely stream however while the VPN is on I am no longer able to get into the Plex settings, update libraries, play .avi video files and use Plex on a few devices/TV’s that are on the same network.
Has anyone experienced this same issues? If so, how were you able to fix them?
I’m sold on using Plex but I am not necessarily sold on using ExpressVPN if someone has a better VPN option that works with Plex.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Hey Plex? What about this? Does your product work with VPNs? I have been using Plex for many years now (I have a Plex Pass) but I cannot find this one piece of information in the FAQs or here.

I think the VPN question is a User/User thing.

Anywho - Private Internet Access has been working on an ‘Exclusion’ feature and it’s active in the Current Beta (no big deal, just download it - if ur a subscriber). Everything Plex goes around the VPN. Works as designed.

Did you see the all the “controversy” surrounding PIA recently? Apparently they were acquired by a company who has in the past shared user data, though seems to be mending their ways. And also, one of the people that work for that company was the guy running Mt. Gox who was found guilty on charges involving stealing his users money and things of that nature.

Linus from LMG/Linus Tech Tips did an interview with some of their head people since he was a shill for them, and I think he’s even kind of upset with them at the moment because he’s afraid the company that acquired them, and that individual will revert to their old ways…

Just informing in case you didn’t know, if you already know and are ok with it, that’s cool.

They are stealing a reasonable yearly payment for their services and when I turn them on Plex still works.

That’s pretty much where my concerns begin and end about PIA as a company. When I look at all the hubs and think about all the people they serve - and wonder how big that microscope is that’s up their tail-pipe.

I expect if they were doing something nefarious - it would be costly - so they probably wouldn’t do it (any more).

Yeh, I think the concern is, if they infected people with malware and sold userdata in the past, and have a guy working for them that stole a bunch of his users money, what’s to stop them from doing so in the future, or even right now? I don’t use PIA, I don’t even have a VPN, it’s not really mission critical for me and what I do online. So…
