VPN's and Plex. What the HELL is going on?

I’m literally at my wits end here.

What is going on with Plex and VPN’s?

I was with PIA but cancelled them after every set up I tried would not work.

I tried Express VPN swayed by their “exclude apps” feature. This doesn’t work either.

I’ve forwarded ports, that doesn’t work.

My PMS is running on a Mac so the frequently posted Windows OpenVPN work-around doesn’t work.

I am at a total dead end here.

I need to use a VPN, I manage and transmit sensitive client data.

My mum and sister are both shared users on my Plex account and neither of them can access my content and I cannot access the content the minute I come off my network.

I’ve read a thousand articles and posts, many go back years, but I just can’t get any VPN & Plex setup to work.

Am I wasting my time here? Does it simply not work at all?

Does anyone have any up to date views or clues on this topic??

I use this to bypass PIA for Plex. Works great, so if you have an OpenVPN client for Mac then it should be easy enough to follow. All other apps use the VPN apart from Plex with these steps.
