I tried the Screen Zoom tip, no success. Plex is of no use to me since that phone update, it’s getting really annoying.
If you are still able to replicate, would anyone be comfortable running logcat via ADB and fetching the logs? These will likely include a system codec error that should highlight the problem. These logs along with the Plex client logs should indicate what’s going wrong.
VideoLan / VLC might be using software decoding rather than the devices built in decoders.

Are you able to resolve the issue by modifying your resolution after force quitting Plex?
yes if i change the screen zoom aka screen resolution it fixes it for a while
I’m as well having this issue on A12 on my s21+. Toggling the screen zoom temporarily works as well as restarting my phone and going right into plex. Even with being temporarily able to start streaming videos I’m running into an issue where plex is triggering the screen to go into HDR mode on videos that are being transcoded from 4k/HDR to 1080p/SDR and as a result everything is over saturated and very red. I tried both the apk versions linked above and same results.
The same problem, you can play movies after restart, but not after a period of time. And IPTV has been unable to play. I modified the screen zoom and it can be played now.

Wanted to provide an update on my experience. Today it was having the same issues. I had some time so I started poking around the android developer options to see if I could narrow it down to something. Was playing around and out of nowhere plex started working. I thought I narrowed it to a gpu setting however even setting everything back to defaults resulted in plex still working. I restarted my phone, opened a bunch of apps, still working.
Somethings to note.
I’m using the latest play store release now 8.26.2.29389 not the dev builds listed above
2 apps updated while I was messing around. Facebook and Acorns. I would assume Facebook would be the troublesome one out of the 2. Maybe some kind of background issue? Idk
Phone CPU spikes high, like 90 some percent playing a 20Mbps file. Don’t know if that’s normal or not
Plex is still triggering HDR mode on the phone on files that are tone mapped.
Same issue for me on A12 S21 Ultra. Changing the resolution allowed playback, I switched it back to the highest resolution and can still play videos, I will test it periodically and provide adb logs and Plex logs next time it happens.

Back to working when it feels like it. I played with different settings/developer settings and it still only plays sometimes. I’d like an update as well on what’s been found or what the issue is.
Okay, I testen the apks above and the “zoom trick” and I can actually play media in the app.
I have a look at it.
But i see directly another bug the pictures of the actors are gone in the Android app.
Have same issue with SD/HD/UHD media from my server and zoom settings didn’t help even after killing and restarting process.

We’ve managed to get hold of another S21 device, updated it to Android 12 and still can’t replicate the issue unfortunately.
There looks to of been a Samsung update today, if you could upgrade your device and see if it fixes the problem. Sadly Samsung don’t specify much in there release notes so it’s hard to tell if any changes to video decoding has been made.
Hi, works for me so far on a new update. I will report back if it starts to misbehave again.

Ok so installed the latest Samsung update a few mins ago, all seems to be working again in PLEX.
I have got the final beta updates (s21 China) today, the issue only be solved temporarily.
After restart I can play the video normally. But after for a while (about 10 minutes), it fails again. Indefinitely buffering…
So, the problem stills here.
