Since Plex for Android Beta 7.27, and continuing in 7.28 even after full offline content delete + full app uninstall and re-install, I just get ‘An error occurred while playing this item’ for any podcast episode played via normal Podcasts section which has its episode already successfully downloaded.
This is happening for me across multiple podcasts and I know it’s not an issue with the downloaded podcast files as if I access the same episodes via ‘Downloads and Sync’ and play the sync’d files via that route those episodes play back fine.
However at the moment the only way to successfully play my latest On Deck podcast episodes is to stop and delete any syncing for those podcasts. Which obviously isn’t good for mobile data use of coping with bad connectivity while travelling.
The only workaround I see is to click the button to delete the download and then play it by streaming. Also, it doesn’t matter whether the download was synced long ago or new, so it’s not like an issue of new downloads being corruptly saved.
Thanks for the comprehensive bug report @DigitalAmoeba. Can you please update to the latest beta (7.28.0.15265) and share logs again? By sheer coincidence we added a bunch of audio player logs in that version that aren’t present in the one you were using. Thanks in advance.
Confirm same issue of not able to play sync downloaded podcast episodes via normal Podcast menu (episodes correctly showing down arrow downloaded status icon) continues with 7.28.0.15265 unfortunately
As mentioned this is a new issue since definitely 7.27. I frequently use this feature so this bug can’t have been around much earlier than that.
I have managed to capture error logs you asked from 7.28.0.15265 I had earlier today
Hi @ManuelPG I can confirm failure to play downloaded podcast episodes from main podcast section continues with latest 7.28.0.15375 app (that updated for me this morning 11th Feb)
In case my previous logs weren’t enough please see attached for new logs with latest client after setting and waiting for test podcast to re-download ‘Latest 3 episodes’ and trying to play most recent after downloads finished and episode was showing downloaded icon. Afterwards same episode played fine streaming after I’d cancelled that podcast’s sync and deleted previous downloaded cached files via Downloads & Sync > Manage.
Please let me know if you’re happy you have enough logs or if there’s anything else you need to help diagnose and fix this?
Thanks @DigitalAmoeba, those are exactly the logs we needed yeah. We have an idea of what might be going on and are working actively on a fix, stay tuned (and sorry for the trouble).
I came looking with what is likely the same problem on a Pixel 3 XL / Android 10. Glad to see it’s a ‘known’ issue with a fix hopefully forthcoming soon. Thanks for your efforts, @ManuelPG
Confirm playback problem for sync’d / cached podcasts is still a problem as of now latest v7.29.0.15583, although there are improvements to display of icon overlay for when things have downloaded (which also became more flaky around this same time)
On auto update to more recent version I did have Podcasts category become un-pinned from my pinned items menu overlay list, but was able to manually go into bottom ‘More’ then top ‘Edit’ to re-pin.
Confirm this issue, of Plex Android not playing Sync’d versions of Podcasts, now verified fixed for me as of 7.29.1.15972
& @volkris confirmed fixed on slightly earlier .15768
