Plex announcement regarding HTPC

Hello,

I’m a little bit confused about Plex’s announcement last month about the discontinuation of HTPC. I know they have essentially rescinded this, but I’d like to understand it anyway incase they decide to try it again in the future.

I have Plex running on a Windows PC. This PC is ONLY used as a Plex server and not a media player. I use Apple TVs, native Plex apps in my TV, my phone, etc. to watch my movies. How will the discontinuation of HTPC affect me? Will I still be able to use a GUI in the server to manage my shows and movies, just not playing them?

Again, I understand this is not happening, but I would still like to understand what it would’ve meant.

Thank you
-JC

It wont affect you at all.
Unless you use the app called Plex Media Player on Windows or a Mac (you woulld know because its a separate download) then its of no consequence.
Its totally different from the Plex UI also… you can still play from there.
