Super confused, need clarification

SO as everyone else has seen, after the announcement of Plex killing HTPC support, I’ve read countless articles going each way, saying what the actual damage of this change will encompass.

I work in the tech field and misuse of tech jargon can be one of the most confusing things ever.

Also, I’ve had plex for years, but only used it one way and try my hardest NOT to go to the forums, so I’m sorry in advance if this has been answered. I’ve set up plex and it’s worked well for so long.

I think the biggest confusion is the complex level of usage of this program. People can use it so many ways it gets confusing, so let me describe my Exact setup and then maybe i can get a clearer answer.

I have a Main PC , Which I use as a regular PC. It contains the HDD dedicated for my Video storage. I have plex server installed and watch plex on my TV in the other room , iPad and iPhones (all through internet connections, using the plex app)

All my Television devices that connect to my server, Use a Roku or firestick , with the Plex App on them.

I do not use Plex to view ANY videos on my PC, I use VLC.

Am I looking to lose that connectivity? or is this switch based at people using the Main PC as the TV without a third party box? (like a roku)

Please help, the thought of making a new server and setting all that back up again is awful in itself, as I really enjoy the UI and quality of plex, especially since i have a giant library and it manages it so well.

You will not be affected. The “traditional HTPC” referred to by the announcement involves a computer connected directly to a TV. The Roku and other such devices will be unaffected.

Nothing you use is impacted by the dropping of HTPC support.

Like the vast majority of Plex users you will be fine.
