Plex app asking to activate even though I've already purchased

Server Version#: 1.19.3.2839 on Shield
Player Version#: 7.1 on iOS

My Plex mobile app has been working great on my iPad and iPhone after purchasing it at the end of April. I’ve gone to use the app yesterday and it’s asking me to pay £4.99 to activate it, even though I’ve already paid when I initially downloaded the app. When I press ‘restore purchase’ I just get a message saying ‘No previous purchase could be found…’. I’ve not changed anything on my devices. All accounts are still the same. I’ve tried uninstalling/reinstalling, signing out of Plex and the App Store, but I still can’t get it to work on either my iPad or iPhone.

Same issue here.

Issue occurred after I had a free period of Plex pass which has now expired and now I need to buy the app again? Is this a a bug or the way which Plex works now?

A completely different issue judging by what you’re saying.
You mention buying the app again but have never actually bought it? You get free access to the mobile apps while a PlexPass is active.
When you cancel the PlexPass the free access to the mobile app lapses also. Pretty sure it’s neither a bug or anything that has changed recently.

From what I understand on the OP @Eliot_Admin actually purchased the app already.

Of course I have bought the app and use the same Apple-ID which I have been using for the last 10 years

Uninstalling and reinstalling didn’t help either. Maybe the new purchase wouldn’t incure a charge but I don’t want to act as a canary and argue to get a refund.

Posting the detailed log files from my iPhone PlexDebugInfo-Steggl-7.1-20782 (2020-06-17 17.26.57 +0200).zip (212.2 KB) for analysis.

I don’t know if it adds additional value but I checked my iPad today and by using the same Apple-ID I get the same behavior.

Do you see the purchase in your iTunes history from these devices?

So my original issue seems to be resolved, but not in the way you might think. I have the app in my purchase/download history, but it was showing £0.00 next to it, which would indicate I didn’t pay for it. I specifically remember the app costing £4.99 to download, as I was asking myself if I’d get enough use out of it to justify it. I pressed the download/pay button but it appears I was never charged. I checked my bank records etc and there was no history of a payment.

In the end I piad the £4.99 through the app and everything is now fine. Can also now see it on my bank statement…

Again the same, I bought it on 25.02.2019 for 0,00€.

It’s been “a while” so don’t really recall but maybe Plex had a limited time promotion back then, giving it away for free? As my NAS which I had back then (DS110j :-p ) was not powerful enough to use Plex I am almost a 100% certain that I would have not bought it for the regular price.

Nevertheless, why have our valid licensed “expired”?

I consider that’s why MovieFan.Plex asked if you can see the actual purchase of the Activation in your iTunes history. This is not referring to the free download of the app but probably only showing in the history.

I’m not aware of some long-ago free give-aways – nonetheless you should have some record there of “getting” the activation

PS: not sure you noticed… Eliot_Admin’s last post was that he actually didn’t buy it until now – so apparently not the same.

So maybe two different issues then after all.

Is anyone looking into mine? I already bought iOS licenses for my kids and whenever Plex would send me a discount code I’d go lifetime but I do not want to spend another 4,49€ on something which has been working perfectly fine and legal until a few days ago.

I’m having the same problem. I picked the IAP unlock up the day I got the app on my first iPad, and now it’s suddenly asking me to cough up to keep using a program I paid for. I have no idea what’s happening with it, but it’s definitely not just you.

Thanks Otend, that is what I thought. Nevertheless I have now bitten the bullet and purchased another iOS license for my account, so that I can watch John Oliver again in bed.

I am having a similar issue.
I have already purchased the app way back in 2013 on my Apple ID. It has worked fine for my wife that is in my family sharing of Apple purchases before. Now it wants her to activate it for herself even though I have already made a purchase and I am a Plex pass lifetime member.

The app activation is not supported through family sharing, never has. If you have a Plex Pass, did you maybe recently remove your wife from your Plex Home? Plex Home is the only way to share your Plex Pass ability to activate the app.
