Plex App Breaks EAC3 Playback, still works with Plex Media Player

Server Version#:1.17.0.1709 (Docker)
Player Version#: 1.3.1.916 (Windows)
Windows Version 1809

There seems to be a bug with the new Plex windows app in that it does not direct play eac3 content. The old PMP application still can and plays back the same files on the latest version of that application flawlessly.

To clarify I am not talking about audio pass-through, just sound playback in general

Yes, I face the same issue. Video files with EAC3 format cannot direct play. It’ll have no sound unless I transcode the video.

No problem with web version.

Update: Weirdly, my other PC’s desktop plex (Version 1.3.1.916-1cb2c34d) have no issues with EAC3 format.

I am also seeing this issue. Video files that contain EAC3 will direct play video/audio but no audio comes from speakers. This was working with old PMP application. Windows version is 1809 also. Running version Version 1.3.1.916-1cb2c34d windows player and Version 1.18.1.1973 server linux version. I hope there is a fix for this too.

I can’t replicate this with the player preview version v1.4 on Mojave. Try this:

Let us know how that works out (or not).

The bug still exists on v1.4 with the latest server build.

If it works on Mojave maybe the bug is specific to the windows plex app.

Still seeing the problem even with Plex Preview Version 1.4 on Windows

Same here, no audio for EAC3 direct play. Nothing interesting in the server logs, except maybe

Oct 24, 2019 23:20:39.661 [0xa49edb40] ERROR - Unable to find client profile for device; platform=windows, platformVersion=7sp1, device=, model=standalone

Still not working in Version 1.4.0.924-60046db9

Getting the same error in version 1.4.1.940-574c2fa7 in my plex logs. No EAC3 audio support in direct play. Plex server running in Ubuntu 18.04

Can we get an update whether this is being looked into? This is still a problem two months later and multiple people have confirmed the issue.
