I am using Plex app on apple tv with Local LAN plex server. Whenever I open an image photo which is approximately 1 MB or greater, the App closes (crashes) automatically on apple tv. I tried by opening photo of around 500-800 KB and they are opening without any issue. Any photo which is 1 MB or greater, it doesn’t open but crashes the app. I currently have iPhoneX with 4k Photos added to plex library. The photos are in JPEG format.
Same issue here. Plex app on Apple TV crashes when opening photos. Older photos/smaller file sizes works fine.
@oyvind_engedal.as are you also opening photos from an iPhone?
Is it possible to get a sample photo that does this. I have jpgs up to 16MB and I can open without issue so just wondering if something specific about photos iPhone makes
Photos on plex app on iphone, mac, pc, web opens fine. Only apple tv app is crashing on opening photos. Even my LG C1 plex app can easily opens photos without issue.
@tahirzia I’ve not been able to replicate your issue yet either. I tried 2 photos (SDR & HDR) from my iPhone X and an iPhone 14, both about 4MB, but they were able to open on my appleTV 4K without crashing. A sample of one of your photos causing the crash would be very helpful.
I have added two photos from my plex photos library. These were uploaded from
IphoneX.
If i share crash logs, maybe that can help. Just tell me how and i can post it here.
link to info on how to get the apple tv logs
Any update in reproducing the crash using the provided images?
I´m having exactly the same issue as Tahirzia is describing. Only crashing when opening photos on Apple TV app. iPhone and web working fine…
New update. I tried to create a new photo library, pointing to the same folder as my old library. While Plex was scanning and creating the new library, everything worked fine. All photos was viewing fine on Apple TV. But after a while, when more and more photos was done scanning, Plex started crashing again. So I was thinking maybe there is a limitation number of photos. My library has over 26000 photos dating back to year 2000.
I don’t know of any intentional limit on number of photos. Pretty sure one of our employees said they had like 100,000 photos and afaik does not have issues like that but I will ask them.
Sounds like database corruption or similar maybe. Have you optimized database lately?

There were many files in log zip file. I didn’t knew if i should upload whole zip or single one. What I did was to open the photo, the app crashed, then downloaded the apple tv logs. Attached today’s log file as attachment. Please see what could be the issue.
Have just done a new database optimization. Still same issue…
Yeah me too, optimizated the db. Still app crashing.
is is possible to get your server logs and apple tv logs covering the same time where the app crashed
Yes, let me perform and crash and grab both logs. Will post here…
I’m also experiencing a similar issue, though in my case I think it may be crashing due to having a ~7500 photo library, as I have two photo libraries and it doesn’t crash on the second one which is much smaller. Optimizing the database didn’t help either. Here are my logs.

I have opened the around 4-5 photos on apple tv around 9:40 PM (25th May) and downloaded the apple tv and Plex Server Logs. (Attached 2 log files from plex and one log file from apple tv). Kindly help me identify the issue and suggest. Thanks
Update: did a bit more testing, and found out that in my case the app crashes not due to the high photo count, but rather when you add the same tag to two or more images. I know Apple TV Plex app has a preview for the first 5-10 tags of whichever image is currently being viewed, perhaps this part is what’s causing this crash.
@BigWheel FYI
Edit: it’s not even due to too many tags, it happens when two or more photos share the same tag. Edited post to reflect this.
