Would be great to have a native Plex app for Android Automotive to bring our music and video libraries on the road
I have a Volvo C40 and would love an Android Automotive plex app, it would be great for music and audio books, and since volvo pays for the connectivity I wouldn’t have to use my phone’s data plan.
I just bought a Volvo XC40 Recharge, and was disappointed to see there’s no Plex app for Android Automotive. For some strange reason, the car doesn’t support Android Auto either, so there’s no native way for me to play my Plex music in the car.
There is an unofficial app developed here that is minimally functional, but it would be fantastic to get an official one.
Just bumping this thread, mostly surprised there’s been so little movement on this since it was posted last April. From what I understand, pushing an Android Automotive version to the Google Play Store is basically a matter of checking a box.
I can’t understand why the Android tablet build wouldn’t suit AAOS (perhaps with a few minor tweaks). Being able to put on an episode of something while waiting for my Polestar to charge would be such a clutch addition!
At I/O 2024, Google announced their new “Car Ready” app tier, which Plex should be able to get approved for. The developers just need to request that Google audit the app(s).
Looks like they’re only accepting Video though, so PlexAmp would need to be updated to support an AAOS media app build.
