Plexamp for AAOS (Android Automobile)

There is still no direct player Plexamp for Android Automobile (AAOS), except the unofficial “Plex AAOS”.
But this is very limited as it only shows playlists, created on your Plex account.
The library is shown is parts like “1 - 100”, “101 - 200” and so on.
Are there any plans in place to port Plexamp for Android AAOS?
Can’t be a big deal to do so.

I’m not sure about the size of the deal to do it, although the Google support site seems to make it looks fairly straightforward. I would love to see this, especially since Google in their twisted logic don’t allow any kind of free tier Youtube Music in AAOS - an OS which is basically a shell for Google Maps and a streaming service of your choice. Kind of embarrasing for them really.

Add me to the list for a PlexAmp application for the AAOS. Hate to pay a music streaming service like Qobuz or Sirius XM when I have a perfectly good music library on my PMS.

PMS 1.42.2.10156 seemed to break the Plex AAOS app for me. I could still navigate playlists etc, but whenever I tried to play a song the AAOS app just said “Something went wrong. Please try again later.”

I seem to have gotten it working again by reverting PMS server to 1.42.1.10060 and uninstalling/reinstalling the AAOS app (in my Volvo).

Did it break for others too?

And +1 for there being a more official app on AAOS. I saw announcements from the Plex team recently that the API is now official and documented. So that presumably helps someone (that’s technically capable of doing so) to make a new and better app for AAOS?

+1 Just bought an Equinox EV and am heartbroken that the best option for me is the unofficial Plex AAOS app. Seems severely lacking. This seems like low hanging fruit for Plex, why no support?

I agreed. Got a Volvo with AAOS and I desperately need Plex(Atleast PlexAMP) working on AAOS. Best if it come with the Sonic DJ options.

Another request. It’s the ONLY app I use in the car that isn’t on AAOS at this point. It has an Android Auto version, so it can’t be too terribly difficult to just port that?

I am working on an Plex app based on Plex AAOS(forked).

It’s currently WIP (internal test phase@google) and I am testing it on my polestar car. If you are interested to join the closed testing group to get access to the app, pn me.

Currently I got many features working well like

  • New design/app layout
  • Title listing (all titles)
  • Play all function
  • Category, genre tag sort etc
  • Internal cache system
  • Download music for offline playing
  • Playlists
  • Add to favorite while playing (with Plex fav sync)
  • Search function
  • Internal Equalizer
  • Optimized settings page
  • New title fetching mechanism (for huge library’s with thousands titles)

Currently I am optimizing the title fetch flow. It’s still buggy but it works :slight_smile:

The app name is PlexBean (not released yet cause early dev and alpha)
