Plex App for Windows 10 on PC keeps on crashing if the app is minimized and then maximized again

The Plex App 3.2.19 keeps crashing if you minimize the App to the taskbar and restore it from the taskbar.
After restoring it shows the busy mouse cursor and closes after a few seconds.

Please fix this because this way the app is not usable on a normal PC.

Just tested, not seeing this on my Surface Pro 4 running the Creators update. Can you post log files? What does the event viewer (system and application logs) say?

Hi,
thanks for the fast response.

The Windows Event Log Displays the following message:

Package CAF9E577.Plex_3.2.19.0_x64__aam28m9va5cke+App was terminated because it took too long to suspend.

Here is the Details of the message:

Logfiles of the App are attached.

Maybe it has something todo with what I am doing:

  • I was watching a videos I had synchronized to the android app by connecting the windows app to the android app.
  • I was also synchronizing videos from my media server to the windows app.
  • The server is currently reached via internet connection while synching, because I am not in the same network as my media server.
  • The crashes also happend while being in the sync status screen minimizing the application, doing some stuff in chrome and returning to the application.

It has likely something to do with that, as watching a video normally doesn’t crash the app. I find syncing not that great on my LAN so when you’re remote it’s probably worse, and very sensitive to network drops etc.

Same issue for me!

Same issue for me.

Package CAF9E577.Plex_3.2.19.0_x64__aam28m9va5cke+App was terminated because it took too long to suspend.

This constantly happens on my wife’s laptop. I’ve since had her start using the Web app again instead. Is there any word on a possible upcoming fix?

That’s the feeling right now  I guess that this forum section was abandoned!! HAHAHA

Everyone reports major, blocking, issues and yet no feedback whatsoever.

I see the same behavior on Windows 10 Creators Update (app crashes with event log error) if I’m playing music from my server and minimize the window. This is with Plex 3.2.20.

Seeing the same here… I kept thinking I was accidentally closing the app, but then I noticed it was happening every time that I minimized the app and tried to return to it. Hoping someone is looking into this…

I’m running the same version and also having the same issue. Doesn’t matter if I’m playing music or video. 1-2 seconds after I minimize it crashes.

I have the same issue here on PC and on Mobile

The lack of support here is shameful. I was hoping @elan or at least a Plex employee could explain what is happening and why we aren’t getting support, but they don’t seem to care.

Hello everyone,
I’ve been getting the same behavior in Windows 10 version 1703 (Creators Update) on my Surface 3 (no Pro) with 2 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. My Plex server is in my laptop with plenty of RAM (12 GB) and hard disk (1 TB). For some reason today the app in Windows 10 started to close by itself in my Surface 3. It was running on battery, 40% remaining, and I haven’t seen this behavior before, even with less battery available.

The message in Event Viever on the Surface says “Package CAF9E577.Plex_3.2.20.0_x64__aam28m9va5cke+App was terminated because it took too long to suspend.”

Is there any way to avoid this? I’m listening to my music from the server on the laptop and this is so annoying. Thanks.

Regards,
Jorge

This is happening to me, constantly, and it’s very annoying. It appears to be specific to the Windows 10 Plex desktop app. Minimizing (or opening a window “in front” of Plex (even after pausing audio/video) results in the app crashing after a few seconds. Media Server is running on a dedicated PC, using the app on my personal PC.

This isn’t something that requires a lot of info to troubleshoot. The issue can be reproduced on Windows 10 (current w/ updates) any time the Plex app is minimized or behind windows and not focused. I have been able to reproduce the error on my PC (Windows 10 V.1703 OS Build 15063.540), my wifes PC (same version), two Windows 10 laptops (same version), and my Plex Media Server PC (same version). If I can reproduce it on 5 machines, someone at Plex can reproduce it and trouble shoot the problem. I’ve been a Plex Pass subscriber for quite some time now, and from what I’ve researched, this issue has been ignored for quite some time (6+ months) which is absolutely unacceptable.

I am experiencing the same issue as Taffu. I am using a QNAP media server, the Plex app store app on my Win 10 PC crashes when minimised. If you’re not going to fix it, please can you respond on the forums to say so and recommend other alternatives.

Also cannot minimize window or move to another desktop without the app crashing.

Same. It’s just silently crashing every time I switch to something else. Win 10 64bit creators update. That’s a real shame cause I paid for this version, while the free apps like PMP or web are stable.

Hi all, this has been happening fairly consistently since WIndows 10 1703 was released. it is getting worse with 1709. This needs to be fixed in the PLEX windows 10 app. Should be fairly easy to troubleshoot once it gets focus. Let me know what data you need?

Same here, the app disappears without a trace. Just silently dies, requires a relaunch. Very annoying.
