Plex app freezes with vizio tv

Anyone else have the major issue of the plex app freezing on their vizio tv?  Anytime I try to exit the plex app to go back to regular cable tv the plex app freezes full screen.  All I can see is the plex menu or wherever I was at in the plex app and hear the audio from the cable tv channel.  There is no way out of this other then to power off and on the tv.  I have tried other vizio apps and it is only the plex app that does this.  Any help would be great, because its pretty unusable if you want to switch between the plex app and anything else ever.  My vizio tv is a brand new eseries 70" with all the latest software, same goes for plex pass and server.

I am having the same issue. Appears to be the Plex Vizio app on the tv. I have a Samsung smart tv and Plex works fine on that tv but my Vizio vizio m551d-a2r freezes with Plex all the time. I get the screen “Houston we have a problem” as well. I tried my chromecast with Plex at the same time and no problems. Definitely a Vizio Plex app issue.

I just want to clarify that what I am saying is that it’s specific to the Vizio tv and likely not Plex server related as all my other items work fine.

I too purchased a Vizio e500i-b1 over the weekend - and chose Vizio specifically for the newly released Plex app. Dropped the $40USD on a one year plexplass subscription, so I could access my huge PMS which has no problems with any of the other numerous clients I use in my house (Chromecast, LG MediaLink, PHT, etc)... but after a bunch of tinkering and finally getting the VIA Plus /Y! store connected (had to change the DNS settings out of the box to Google's 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4 as the DNS that it shipped with gave horrible performance on Netflix/wouldn't allow me to connect to any apps)....

Now, I've been able to get the Plex app open, and it will show all my media (though not a huge fan of the new categories it displays... what happened to "Recently Added"?!?!).... any time I attempt to play any movie, it will just freeze at "Buffering"... and then the TV becomes pretty much completely unresponsive. If I load up another app, I can open it up but when exiting the "Buffering" plex screen is in the background. Even power off will sometimes be unresponsive, and I actually have to physically pull the plug on the TV.

Glad to hear I am not alone here, hoping that we can get some traction on a fix?!

I gave up on using the plex app on the vizio smart tv.  My e-series 700i was just no good with plex whatsoever.  Purchased another Roku 3 and couldn't be happier again.  Pretty sure smart TV apps are pretty poor performance compared to the Roku 3, at least so far in my experience.  Everyone would be happier just using a Roku 3 with plex then bother wasting time with these so called smart TV's. Also the Roku 3 will work even if you are using a VPN, unlike the vizio smart TV which will not.  I should of known better and just bought the Roku 3 right away.  So now I have 2 Roku 3's and everything in all my rooms are running smoothly with plex.
