Plex app has stopped playing live tv

Server Version#: 1.42.2.10156
Player Version#: 2525.29.0 (1366)

The Plex app on my iPhone has stopped playing Live TV (locally, at home), claiming that “A server with the specified hostname could not be found.”

The same Plex app on my iPhone, via the SAME WiFi connection, to that SAME PMS with that SAME HOSTNAME, plays the videos stored in the PMS, no problem. Obviously, the app DOES know about the Plex Media Server with the configured HOSTNAME, otherwise, how could it play videos from that server?

Until recently, the Plex app on my iPhone used to play Live TV (locally, at home), no problem. Live TV continues to play on all other local devices: desktops, laptops, Apple TV, etc. The only device that cannot play Live TV is my phone.

Nothing about the configuration of my PMS has changed in over 5 years. The only changes have been the updates to the Plex app.

During the past year, every time Plex updates the app on my iPhone, I lose features.

The old Plex app on my iPhone used to connect to my PMS remotely, no problem. The “enhanced” Plex app on my iPhone will rarely connect, usually claiming that I have no libraries. At the same time, at the same location, the Plexamp app as NO PROBLEM connecting to the very same PMS remotely. Furthermore, the Synology Drive app on my iPhone has NO PROBLEM connecting to the PMS remotely. The Plex app is the only app that will not connect to the PMS remotely.

When will Plex honor the fee that I pay for its services???

Having same issue. Works on iPad works on androids tv works on Roku works on computer. Get that error occurred a server with that specified host name can not be found. Meanwhile my ota guide is correct and I can access personal media.

Just got a plex pass yesterday. So I can say it has yet to work for me.

Still happening for me as well.

Even tried cancelling my account and starting a new one thinking it was because I had the server on my Nvidia shield.

Still the same for me. 10 mouths without live tv on iOS. :sob:

Hi

Give this a go worked for me

Go to settings, Network and look for this setting below and put in your local subnet

e.g

LAN Networks

192.168.1.0/24

Comma separated list of IP addresses or IP/netmask entries for networks that will be considered to be on the local network when enforcing bandwidth restrictions. If set, all other IP addresses will be considered to be on the external network and will be subject to external network bandwidth restrictions. If left blank, only the server’s subnet is considered to be on the local network.

Regards

Thank you for the tip, but it did not work for me. The Plex app on my iPhone still no longer plays Live TV (locally, at home), claiming that “A server with the specified hostname could not be found.” Even though the old version of the app used to play live TV just fine.

Download the NextDNS app from the App Store and enable.. This fix worked for me.

NextDNS works!!! :raising_hands:

I have some great news—it finally works! I couldn’t enable video transcoding because it would bring my NAS to its knees.

But since the latest Plex server update (beta), I’ve been able to enable real-time transcoding with hardware acceleration. Using the GPU. And enabling experimental HEVC decoding.

Since then, live TV has been working again! Even better, we can change the quality on large 4K videos and switch them to 240p without the NAS CPU breaking a sweat. Of course, it uses the 920+ GPU. What a joy.
