The latest update to the iPad OS app has stopped my Live TV working. I get “Error Occurred : A server with the specified hostname could not be found.”
If I access Live TV via a browser on the same device, or use my Android 12 phone (on a rolled back version of the app), they work fine.
The general Live TV experience is awful as well on the new app. It takes a long time to load the Guide, when I click on a channel it freezes and I have no idea whether it is working.
I have the same problem on my iPhone. Same error. I deleted and re-installed the app and the problem persists… says it can’t find my server when I try to select a live channel to watch (HDHomeRun). The app DOES find all the channels on my HDHomeRun device, it just won’t play them. Note: the Plex app on my MacBook, and the web version, both work fine.
Problem device: iPhone 15 Pro Max, iOS version 18.4.1
Server: Mac mini, Sequoia Beta 15.5, running Plex Version 1.41.7.9749
NEW INFORMATION: If I connect via cell service everything seems to work. I only get the error when connecting by WIFI.
Just to confirm. This error only occurs when I’m using wifi to connect to the network that my Plex Server is on. If I turn off wifi and connect with cellular service, everything is fine. Could this be a setting issue or a cache problem? Can anyone else confirm this unusual behavior?
I don’t know what this really proves. But I tried connecting to my Plex server, that is hosting my Hd home run tuner, from a hotspot on my phone and I actually get a different error message. That message is “The operation couldn’t be completed. (Core Media Error Domain Error 1718449215.)”.
Exactly the same problem here. Just updated my iPhone and iPad to the latest (new) player and now I cannot watch live TV from my HDHomerun tuner. Plex fills in the guide but when I select a channel I get the error. The tuner is working fine as I can watch LiveTV on the Plex Web player and using the Channels app on my iPhone happily plays live TV.
My server is 1.41.5.9522-70009522 running on a Synology NAS under DSM 7.2.1
Update: I saw a comment that it worked when on cellular. I tried that and yes, I could get a program to play on a cellular connection but with no sound! I tried streaming one of the movies on my NAS and that had sound. So the issue seems to be with Live TV. (Yes I did toggle the sound mute icon in the top LH part of the screen but could not get any sound).
Yes, when I switched to cellular I could get a program to play but with no sound. Sound was fine with a movie streamed from my server. So the issue is with LiveTV.
When I switched to WiFi, the playing channel went black and a few moments later the error message appeared.
When connected to the server by cellular, I also initially didn’t get sound when streaming from HDHomeRun via my Plex Server. However, when I switched to full screen display on my iPhone, I was able to control sound. When I switched back to the small screen display, sound control worked. So, as of now, everything works as long as I’m connected via cellular. However, If I connect using my local home wifi network, I can’t stream HDHomeRun content.
Hmm, doesn’t work for me. Initially when I select the program I get the small screen display on my iPhone and the speaker icon has an x next to it and will not toggle. I the switch to full screen but there is no audio control. Back to small screen and I can now toggle the speaker icon on and off but still get no sound in either position. With sound toggled on and switch into to full screen there is again no sound.
Yep that’s what I’m seeing also. Live TV is now totally broken, way to go Plex, this is now getting beyond a joke, premium feature my A$$.
I’m also having no end of problems with TV guide data not showing in the Plex New Experience client, but showing up fine in Web and on old Apple TV client.
But unlike other areas of focus by Plex (specifically the NAS threads where Plex are quite active in response) this thread will go without acknowledgement or any attempt for a fix, I hope I’m wrong…let’s see.
For me, this is an important functionality. It allows me to watch on my iPad around the house but, more importantly, when I am travelling overseas I can still access my “home” TV channels and catch the news. I do hope they pay some attention. It is one thing to change an interface that was working fine and make it worse but when you go and break functionality that is unacceptable.
I’m pretty sure I did the following: (1) select Live TV; (2) select a channel to watch; (3) after you see the show streaming (with no sound) select the button on upper right (diagonal arrows) to switch to full screen mode; (4) while streaming in full screen mode, click the volume buttons on the side of the iPhone. After that, volume control and even mute control in the small window seemed to work. BTW, this all needs to be done while connecting in cellular mode, not via local wifi.
Added note: I might have also clicked the iPhone mute button while streaming in large screen mode… getting old.
I’m having that same issue on my iPhone and iPad. I like to use my iPad while I’m mobile around the house.
Another issue I’ve found since the app update is the guide doesn’t update past 7:30. Everything is blank starting at 8, the time when new episodes start.
Live tv with the app has become unusable
Update: I don’t know how it happened, but I lost sound on my iPhone when using Live TV via cellular connection (from HdHomeRun). However, when I connected using WiFi on a network different from the network with my server, sound returned to Live TV. Very strange behavior. I hope someone at Plex is looking into this.
I had the same issue, fortunately I was able to resolve. My issue is that the new client seems to try and access your server using a specific url ending in plex.direct. My DNS server didn’t resolve this which is why it worked fine on VPN or cellular since it was using different DNS servers. I was able to get my DNS server to resolve it and now I can watch live tv on my ipad.
What DNS server are you running internally? Are you running a custom DNS server or just using the default from your ISP?
