Server Version#: 1.28.0.5999 (also 1.27.1.5916 had this issue)
Player Version#: 8.7 (also 8.6 had this issue)
Hi,
I’m having trouble launching the plex app on two different iPhones (13 Pro running iOS 16 public beta 2 and 12 mini iOS 15.5) and an apple TV (model A1625, running iOS 15.6). When I try to launch the apps from the respective homescreens, the app just crashes within about 1 second. I have tried to delete and reinstall the app, but to no avail.
I would like to add logs, however the instructions for doing so are outdated. They reference a link of an app of LemonJar which leads to a 404 error, and also you need to be able to launch the app because “you need to make sure you’re signed in”, which obviously I can’t because the app won’t launch. Therefore, no logs unfortunately. Maybe someone can tell me a different way of doing this?
I did, however, notice the following: when I deleted and reinstalled the app, I was able to launch the app. When I entered my Plex credentials at the login though, the app almost immediately crashes after I push the “Log in” button. I do get an email saying “a new sign in was detected”. This leads me to believe it has something to do with either my plex account, or the sign in process.
If needed, here’s some info on my server though I feel that’s not related to the issue at hand:
Running in Docker on NAS DS 418Play, intel Celeron J3355. 16GB RAM
I have exactly the same problem. The app crashes while completing the splash screen.
When I look back I think it started with version 8.6 (about 2-3 weeks ago). Of course I can’t reproduce it any more but I think it didn’t start at the same time for both iPad en AppleTV (4K).
I also tried the Plex app on my Mac Mini M1 desktop running the latest macOS and Plex app and I had no trouble viewing Plex content.
When I removed the Plex app on my iPad and re-installed it, the app crashed as soon as I had entered my login credentials.
I’m surprised I don’t any more mentioning of this issue (yet).
Just installed v8.7.1 on my iPhone and am still experiencing the same issue. I’m at a loss here, anybody have any ideas? Are @macbelly and me the only ones experiencing these issues? I can hardly believe that to be honest…
On my AppleTV 4K (model A2169, 32GB running tvOS 15.6) I removed the Plex app completely, restarted the AppleTV and re-installed the Plex app.8.7 (1).
After opening the Plex app I was asked to link my AppleTV to my Plex userid. As soon as I have submitted my credentials the Plex app crashes.
Anyone of the Plex team to assist? I have ‘Send crash reports’ turned on in Plex app settings.
Update time! I disabled remote sharing, restarted plex server, reinstalled the flex app on my phone et voilá: the app can launch again.
So it seems there is something wrong with remote sharing. I’ve had contact with @macbelly (he actually discovered this work around), so the steps above also work for him.
Can anyone at Plex advise on what to do? What can I share to help you fix this issue?
Hello @rebelder, thanks for your share but your provided workaround didn’t really worked for me.
When I disable remote sharing, restarted and reinstall the Plex app, this later didn’t crashed and I’m able to get all my content through local home network (sounds great…).
But once I reactivate remote sharing…patatra same issue ;-(
Hi @bibifock, I still have that same issue. The work around is for getting the app to work again, not for using Remote Sharing. You will have to disable Remote Sharing all together I’m afraid.
I did find out a little bit this week: The problem seems to occur when a ‘friend’ shares their library with my. I recently activated remote sharing again and everything seemed to work fine, but when a friend started sharing their library again I encountered the same issues. So that’s a little bit of extra information I guess. Something to do with sharing libraries. Do you share your library with anyone remotely @bibifock? And does someone else share their library with you? If that’s the case, seems like a smoking gun to me then…
Hello @rebelder, I share my library with some friends but none of them share their library with me.
So not exactly the same case as you ^^
I hope that Plex team will find and fix this issue quickly because friends (who have IOS) can’t access to my library since perhaps 2 months…It’s quite long
Another issue (and maybe related, I don’t know…):
My Plex server is installed inside my home local network and reachable from outside with my own sub domain.
I’m able to connect to my Plex server using my own direct URL
Whereas when I use https://app.plex.tv/ redirection, this later was not able to show my library because it can’t connect to my server…
I suppose that Plex Apps will do the same thing: once authenticate through plex servers, it redirects to our personnal server…
