Plex app loses connection/doesnt find server again, but after re-login it does

@mkdr said:
Like I said, it doesnt contain any Windows app/client at all. Devices count = 2, server and one android device.

Why are you asking about clients / apps?

We are discussing here connections to the server and all we need is to work out how to connect to the server and what IP address and port and url to use.

Wasnt all said to this already? Windows app doesnt re-load/get updated/changed ip from the plex network, just when the app re-logins.

Yes - we agree. That is where we were a few posts earlier. Windows App is not asking plex.tv for an updated server connection information and we need to wait for @mfeingol or other member of the Plex for Windows team to have a look here and comment on it. Nothing changed from my earlier note a few posts before

I dont get how this can happen, it also seems the bug is really old, because there was a change recently on the server ISP which cleared the IP every 24h. The server updates the IP correctnly to the plex network, but the clients dont update them… The android app seems to work but also takes a long time to just shows server as offline, and then somewhen thinks of maybe it’s a good idea to ask plex network if IP is still correct… but the Windows app doesnt do this step at all and just if a re-login happens. Why is this important step not done everytime the app starts… it should be one of the first steps the app does you would think. The re-load/re-fresh also doesnt do it at all in the Windows app… So this is two bugs. I guess the bug is in the re-load function and the app just triggers a re-load when opening it, leading to this.

The Windows client refreshes its connectivity info periodically from plex.tv. The best way to force it to do so is to enter the Servers page from the appbar button.

Aehem ???.. please read the posts above again, I dont want to be rude, but this is like a joke answer. It has nothing to do with this issue. sa2000 please help me here I am like sitting and laughing/crying about this answer.

  1. updating periodically => nope, if so, it is broken
  2. what is even an ā€œappbar buttonā€
  3. refresh broken
  4. IT ONLY FINDS THE SERVER AGAIN IF YOU DO A LOGOUT AND LOGIN AGAIN

I was seeing this issue too, back in July (https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/981175/#Comment_981175).

Still sometimes have the issue but as mentioned, I just sign out/in and it clears up.

Let’s keep this civil, please.

Looking at the code, there does appear to be a semi-recent regression in our three-minute periodic update. It looks like we’re looking for servers over GDM / UDP broadcast, but not re-requesting devices from plex.tv. I’m also not seeing us refresh on startup as we used to. I may be missing something, but if not, I’ll make sure that’s fixed in the next Win app release.

The appbar is the bar you bring up by right clicking inside the app, or swiping from below if using touch. There’s a Servers button in there on the main page. Entering that button will refresh your servers (I promise!)

That’s the most funny try to say ā€œSorry, yes total fail on our side, huge bug in the code, buuut here look, we did a xyz thingy here and did an abc hook here and the colors of the rainbow are black and white, didnt you know.ā€. ĀÆ_(惄)_/ĀÆ

Nice to see we could sort this out :~)

Again, let’s try to keep things civil.

Software has a design in your head and an implementation in code. The two aren’t always in sync. But thanks for the bug report, in any case.

okey dokey :~)

Having issue with app for iphone and ipad. Stating server needs an update. Before update was working fine. Any solutuons from the Plex Development Dept.?

That is completely different.

Please go to plex.tv/downloads and download Plex Media Server 0.9.12.8 and install it
The release information for the new Plex for iOS app does say there is a dependency on the version of Plex Media Server

There is a separate forum for Plex for iOs issues

Did you change something on the Win plex app considering connectivity, I have a feeling this problem has come back on Windows app…

@mkdr, this hasn’t changed recently, what are you seeing exactly?

I’ve been seeing this problem using the iOS client to a MacOS Plex server for several months.

Server is currently running Version 0.9.12.19.1537-f38ac80.

FWIW, the NAS connected to my MacOS server are both connected via gigabit to one another.

Is there anything that I can do to collect useful debug information for you? Please respond.

Hi Friends,

I have not used the plex account for a long time but earlier when i used it it was convenient and easy.

I purchased the plex app on my android phone and installed the plex server on my desktop computer. I created a library and could access it from my app on my android app.

As of late i signed into the app and also on the desktop but i get "connection to the server is lost switiching to local "

I tried sign in / sign out and updated the login credentials but still no luck. It is so frustrating. Is there a customer support no to reach out and get some help ?

Thanks !!

Im experiencing nearly the same issue on my iMac using plex and wd tv live. Im currently on plex version 9.12.19 but it just freezes and drops to server not found messages. When I go to reattach the server the media server list is empty. Curiously my logitech server that normally shows up also has disappeared. When I back out and try again both reappear but Plex will freeze and drop again. When I play the same videos via the newtwork share function of the wd tv live, that is bypassing Plex, they work flawlessly.

Just to clarify what Plex client app are you using ? The forum topic you have joined is to do with the Plex for Windows client app for Windows 8 and Windows 10. Are you trying to cast from that to a different Plex client app?
Just clarify your setup in terms of server platforms and Operating Systems and Plex client apps and devices they are running on. You may need to raise your issue in a different forum
