Plex App missing from QNAP HybridDesk Station

Server Version#: 4.4.1.1064
Player Version#: 1.16.3
Since upgrading my QNAP TS-453A firmware, Plex is no longer available on the HybridDesk Station, so I’m no longer able to play my content direct from the QNAP to my TV via HDMI.

The Plex server is running on the machine however, so I can stream from it to other devices. But I’d rather play content native on my TV to avoid having to transcode.

Anyone have any work arounds? Is this a known problem that Plex are working on?

I’m too chicken to upgrade to 4.4.1 xD
I really like the idea of outputting HDMI from the QNAP directly to the A/V system, though.

Maybe if you upgrade to PMS-1.16.6.1592 stable, it will somehow register itself with HDS?

Hot topic :hotsprings:

PHT and PMP was never a Plex supported thing on QNAP, but was done by a QNAP Community Member.

Sadly, that member stopped providing new builds

Oh, that’s a shame. Plex was pretty much the only app I was using on HDS.

Maybe time to switch from HDS to Linux? I’ll do a bit of probing to see how to wrap an app to run on HDS… Docker?

There is a current version of PMP that you can get for use from the Qnapclub Store that will work on HD Station. They have continued to update the build with each successive release from Plex. They also provide instructions for adding their store to your QNAP App Center so that you can stay up to date as well.

Edit to add: Current build is 2.42.0.101 as of the date of this post (2019/09/21).

Thank you… yes, found it yesterday and got it up and running. Only issue is that it’s not playing .mkv files when they stream off the server no problem?

Grab us the Log Files in debug mode from server and player after you’ve restarted PMS and given it 10min to settle down, tried to play the MKV, and quit out of PMP.

Zip the entire folder of PMS logs, but only the latest Plex Media Player.log
and attach those with your next reply.

@nibbles sorted!

I uninstalled PMP… I had installed this manually after downloading the qpkg from the QNAPClub. So I installed the repo and noticed that there’s two versions of PMP listed in that. I uninstall the version I had manually installed and then installed the later version from the repo via the QNAP AppCenter.

And now everything works.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Thanks for this thread. I am having the same problem. The only reason I own a QNAP NAS is for the HDMI port to play directly to my TV without adding to the burden on my network. I spent literally years converting thousands of DVDs and Blu-Rays to .mkv format, and had to transfer them to my other NAS for storage and archival (so that I don’t have to spend more years converting them again). This meant that my network was commonly sending 100 MB/sec of video for 5 hours at a time. I burned up two routers during that time and now keep a cooling pad and fan aimed at my present router. : )

I am done with converting my collection, but am slightly horrified that this is not a QNAP HybridDesk Station feature. If the previous person making this compatible is around, I would like to contribute, even if he is no longer doing this. I assumed that it was Plex making this possible rather than some hobbyist/entrepreneur. In any event, once I have verified that the new link works, I will have to make use of the donation option.

Hello everybody,

I also have the same problem with Plex, since the last update 4.4.1.1064, and I am really very disappointed.

I have 2 questions, if anyone knows:

  1. Is this permanent to this 4.4.1.1064 version, that Plex will no longer be available on the HybridDesk Station, so I’m no longer able to play my content direct from the QNAP to my TV via HDMI? Will Plex be added in another update?

2… Is it possible to downgrade somehow to the previous version, and fix the problem?

Thanks in advance

Christos

The link was already posted in this thread. The download link works (after a few attempts). The software works on my QNAP TS-451+ with Intel CPU, but doesn’t seem processor specific.

It is a 500 MB file, but the Plex Media Player works on the HybridDesk allowing me to use my remote to play on my TV through the HDMI port.

Hello again

Thank you for you answer !!

I installed PMP as mentioned, but it crashes all the time!!!

I also tried to delete and reinstall, but nothing (Playing just a mkv file 4GB)

Any ideas please ? (TS-451A 4.4.1.1064 build 20190918)

Thanks in advance

Christos

zip up the Plex Media Player.log and attach it.
There’s probably a forum for that software on Qnapclub.fr

What version of HD Station is being used? The current version of PMP available from that site requires HD Station 4.0 or higher.

Hell again
The HD station is 4.0.3hd%20station

The problem is not to install it

The problem is that when I install it, if I play a movie, after a while it crashes…

Thank you !

As already said, this is not a Plex build, but something 3.Party cooked up
You really need to ask your questions where you got it from, since that’s where the developer of it hangs out!

Only he knows the insights about version and tweaks made to get it up and running

Same thing for me… After 30s, black screen.

Just created a new topic about it.
