Dear Plex people,
After long searches, I guess I understand why when I do use Samsung Plex application with 4K DTS:X movies sound (7.1), I get freezes very quickly (buffering a lot an so on and so forth) and it is not possible to watch the movie, knowing that a movie 4K with EAC3 sound does play without problems because no sound transcoding…
It is because the plex application does transcode the sound down to AAC, as the TV is not DTS:X compatible directly (Samsung TQ85QN85CAT) … But the TV is connected to a Samsung sound bar (HW-Q990C) which is DTS:X compatible… The Plex application does not knows that it can play DTS:X because it does not get the information from the Samsung TV, so transcoding is the problem.
When on the same TV system I do use Xbox or Shield Plex applications everything works perfectly, because those apps do not translate the sound…
Basically, any external box with Plex app on it and HDMI connection to the TV will work perfectly because they do not transcode…
So would it be possible to update the samsung Plex application with an option to give us the ability to force direct play for the sound ?
