I’ve been enjoying using Plex for years now but recently when playing a few of my 4K HDR videos (Dolby Vision or not) on both my AppleTVs 4K (2021 & 2022 models), some movies are displayed with a really red colour calibration whilst playing those videos with Plex app on a Wemax Dice with AndroidTV 10 there’s absolutely no issue, as well as playing then on VLC.
Note that both my TVs connected to the AppleTVs are HDR compatible and one is a brand new OLED 4K Philips TV so there shouldn’t be any major technical issue there?!
If somebody dares to look at my messages one day (fingers crossed, who knows), I’ve been able to find a pattern: all those movies that Plex messes up displaying properly are labeled “4K DoVi/HDR10 (HEVC Main 10)”.
So when Plex analyzes my files and sees “4K DoVi/HDR10 (HEVC Main 10)” metadata, it displays them with a red level LITTERALLY off the roof.
Dear bmortin, after reading your message I’m both happy (for I’m finally not alone) and sad (because you have the same problem and it’s then not a simple glitch).
Like I said before I’m using VLC as a backup method, though I’ve noticed that playing those files this way gives me a brighter image (kind of an inconvenience when watching a horror movie or some…).
I’m also disappointed that no one from the Plex team has even cared to acknowledge this issue… Maybe one day !
