Plex App on Drobo b810N Crashing During Playback

Server Version#: 3.53.7
Player Version#:

I seem to be getting a repeated error on Plex crashing on my Drobo B810n. When I start the app and start watching content, the content stops playing not far into the content (regardless of the content) and displays a connection error. When attempting to reconnect it fails.

Have ruled out a network issue as the cause as I also cannot connect to the plex media server on the drobo even from the browser or any other device. Only a restart of the plex media server app on the drobo resolves the issue. Sometimes this resolution fixes the issue for several hours and sometimes it only works for several minutes before another restart is required.

Have tried a complete unisntall and reinstall/rebuild of the library and also updated the plex app a few times but it hasn’t resolved the issue.

Drobo have looked at the Drobo logs and identified the Plex app as being unstable so could do with the Plex Support guys reviewing the logs and providing insight into the issue.

Have several logs from Drobo and Plex to supply. Plex Media (1.1 MB)
Plex Media (1.8 MB)

The app is also never running on restart of the drobo. Always has to be started manually.

Any other suggestions as to what to try is welcomed.

I’m running the same server version on a drobo 5n2 and my server just keeps crashing after it’s opened as well… i just noticed this behavior… not sure what’s going on, would appreciate any help. It’d be nice if someone from plex could address this since you guys provide no way to reach any sort of tech support directly

@Mr_Steve_Clarke Thank you for providing logs of your issue. Do you have any more recent logs that cover similar crashing behaviour?

All I can see in the logs is a crash two months ago that occurred in libfreeimage.so (one of the libraries that PMS uses to scan images)

Crash in module libfreeimage.so (0x8aa50)
Crash: SIGSEGV
  Module "libfreeimage.so", in 0x8aa50
  Module "libfreeimage.so", in 0x1edd1e
  Module "libfreeimage.so", in 0x1eddb9

  Module "libfreeimage.so", in 0x1edd26
  Module "libfreeimage.so", in 0x1edd6c
  Module "libc-2.11.1.so", in 0x119be6

Would it be possible to get the following files; as these might be the cause of the issue;
/mnt/DroboFS/Shares/Photos_Master/HiResDesktopImages/1440_1280x1024-wallpaper-cb1267711343.jpg and may be also /mnt/DroboFS/Shares/Photos_Master/HiResDesktopImages/14576_star_wars_r2_d2.jpg

Firstly,

The mount points you refer to are for a Drobo which has not been active in months and which is not used to run plex.

And secondly, you can’t have the specific files you want as these have nothing to do with plex or the Drobo.

I’ve supplied all the log files and diagnostics files I needed to to yourselves and Drobo. You need to work with them as the platform providers to resolve the issues with your app and their platform. Whichever one it is, both need to fix it. They say its Plex, I say its their apps platform. You two need to work it out and resolve ir.

Sadly, the log files do not tell us much other than Plex Media Server crashed while trying to analyse either of those two images (both are listed in the logs right before the crash is caught and the report uploaded to our crash reporting service).

Without access to the files that we suspect are causing the scanner to crash, we won’t be able to reproduce the issue under a debugger, which would allow us to fix the issue.

There is one alternative you could try, and that is to manually update to our newer preview build here: Much faster (hopefully), smaller (mostly) and better PMS builds preview (1.14.0.391-7623e9224) which may resolve the issue due to newer compiling tools and updated libraries.
