The problem is described in my topic title. I used to be able to watch movies with subtitles on, no problem reading the subtitles. Recently I got a new Toshiba Fire TV and installed the Plex app on it. I don’t know if the problem is the new TV, or the app itself, or my server, but now subtitles appear too low on the screen no matter what settings I select. My video files nearly all MKV ripped from DVDs with English subtitles included, if available. Any foreign films that require subtitles are now almost impossible to enjoy with Plex unless I change the Subtitle settings to “burn image format” or “Always” – “Automatic” does not work and results in subtitles appearing at the bottom of the screen with the lower lines of text cut off. I don’t like transcoding video because playback is never as good – picture can be jittery, especially when there is a lot of motion onscreen. It’s very frustrating because this has not happened in all the years I used Plex with my Toshiba TV, and with my last Toshiba Fire TV (replaced in April 2022). Is anyone else experiencing this problem? I can tell you that I also have a Roku stick on my old Toshiba non-Fire TV – and the Plex app on Roku plays videos and subtitles perfectly – always as they should be.
