Really interested to see how siri will fit in with the Plex experience!

Being such a major app for Apple TV, I would hope that Apple would have a direct contact for you guys that you can speak with to speed up the process.

It won’t until Apple lets them add search functionality, probably this summer.

Plex is the ONE app that Apple probably doesn’t want on the aTV. They want you to get all of your content from iTunes…

Simple X has been approved already which is an alternative to official plex app so its just a matter of time before apple approved PLEX.

Another thing to remember is that we are small fries in terms of audience. We like to think Plex is a large entity, but Apple focuses on companies like Netflix, HBO, Hulu and Facebook. Plex is smaller than most game studios (which Apple ignores), so the team will not really be noticed unless there’s a Plex fan in the CA group at Apple.

Apple’s perspective, BTW, is that media storage by users is no longer relevant, so there’s not going to be a lot of sympathy from them

If they wanted that then they would have never added universal search between other big content providers.

good luck @elan and the rest of the team.
thanks in advance for the hard work you’ve put into this. I know it’s gonna rock!

Thanks for your support and patience, it’ll be worth the wait, promise

Thank you elan – here’s hoping Apple pushes this bad boy through quickly. I just finished setting my ATV4 up and, although it was galling, I installed SimpleX until I can use the official app.

This has been a long time coming, glad Apple finally woke up on the AppleTV app front and provided a new platform for you guys.

Hi elan Just tested out the search and voice command functions of the Apple TV using Netflix (commands such as “what did he say” and "search for (movie,tv show) etc " all work on Netflix with out a hitch! will the Plex app have this functionality as well?!

I don’t think they mind so much. In fact they seem to be pushing the convenience of accessing content from various sources under the one roof/UI as a major selling point since we’ll probably never escape the age of X only being available to view via one service, and Y only being available to view via another service. If Plex extends Apple the ability to sell more devices, then everyone’s a winner.

Where Apple are, and will probably forever be, stubborn is in denying support for features that they don’t consider to be relevant like the more modern audio codecs, and 24p output. That will always hamper our Plex friends in being able to make apps like this as good as they can possibly be and that’s deeply frustrating as it seems like we take one step forward and three steps back with these kind of devices (the 24p issue puts me off the Apple TV almost entirely, or at the very least leaves it to be a device most likely to be relegated to a bedroom rather than take pride of place in a living room). How the “future” of content delivery comes in stripping away features we’ve been used to for almost a decade now via physical media I’ll never know…

As others have pointed out, there’s no way for third party apps to use Siri (yet, at least).

Baby steps
