Plex App on NEW Apple TV App Store

click rather then tap is annoying shouldl have the option for both/either/or but more annoying still is the fact that every time i pick up my remote while watching a movie I inadvertently touch the trackpad
and it starts to FF or rewind ( ugh ) lol

I’m not sure anything is going to happen over the weekend. Let’s all relax and come back on Monday

App review does work on weekends so I’m holding out hope

That makes two of us

Well done to @elan and Plex team for their work so far. Looking forward to hearing the ‘approved’ status across the interweb hopefully very soon.
In the mean time I’m having a beer.

I’m waiting for the app to be released before considering getting an Apple TV.

Really?!?! Look at the app on every other platform and you will know exactly what to expect. What could you possibly be expecting that would drive your decision one way or the other.

Definitely with everyone else in awaiting the App Store approval!

This! I keep doing this all the time and it’s really annoying!

Can’t wait for the official Plex client!

Does anyone know if when it approves it goes straight on to the App Store? Or do @elan and the team then have to upload? Not that I’m impatient or anything…

OT, but I agree that the new Apple TV4 remote is not up to Apple’s usual build quality or I got a dud. The touch pad has a wobbly click (not a tap?) and is really skittish, jumping all over the place when trying to select alphanumerics in the HORRENDOUS ‘keypad’ menus (come on Apple — can’t your UI designers do better than 26-character-long strings?)
The entire App buy process is clunky and needs a rethink.
Siri works well but it needs to search across all apps and not just the usual suspects.
IOW, tvOS feels like a version 1.0 beta and some polishing is needed.

They upload their binary for review, and once it’s approved it’s marked “ready for sale”. Elan & Co. then have to actually put it on sale.

@elan - I realise its early days and the app isn’t yet approved…

I’m just curious as I’m looking for a plex app for another livingroom… would you rate your atv4 plex app over PMP… (just intrigued, currently running PMP from a macmini - love it)

I’m not looking to divide opinions or have a technical debate, I guess I’m looking at this from a ease of use usability point of view, as it shall be serving a family of 6 and I’m not looking to through anything to heavy at it or output any high end audio.

thanks for all your hard work with PLEX it is appreciated  …good luck with the app !

I don’t have any wobble so you may want to look into that. Also, taps are recognized in games so for one reason or another apple chose not to accept it as input for selection. Maybe there were too many false positives. And I just read that on the keyboard you can tap the right and left side of the trackpad to advance one space in that direction.

The trackpad is sensitive, but you can adjust the sensitivity in the settings menu. Maybe that will help it from jumping so much. I couldn’t agree more about the on screen keyboards though.

Astounding they did not have a companion app for the iphone, its like the departments dont talk to each other over in the cupertino, amazing really.

On the up side we had family round yesterday and had great fun playing crossy road for most of the evening!

But yes the trackpad is too sensitive, 50% of the time you pick up the remote and its upside down, and you are scared to move it incase you accidentally fast forward, or rewind or what ever.

I hope logitech update the harmony to allow me to do the basics, the voice thing is pointless really.

Vram, I suspect everyone is waiting to see what the app is like, because we have all been stung before. i.e. not a one of my movies plays in 5.1 on the Amazon TV for instance. Its still not clear on that one who is to blame or whether anyone cares. All I know is no 5.1

Absolutely spot on! I purchased the FireTV thinking “it would just work”, but I have never been able to get 5.1 working.

Well… Guess I’ll have to buy SimpleX.

I intentionally purchased the Apple TV to stream my PLEX media to it, and I was excited to get to use it with family and friends that are over this weekend.

Really disappointed that PLEX couldn’t follow the App Store submission guidelines in order to be available for launch.

I’m a programmer though, so I’m glad to pay for and support the developer of SimpleX for his efforts.

Have a little patience. Do you have an iPad or iPhone? You can still watch content by doing AirPlay.

I wouldn’t give the SimpleX developer a dime…

I was thinking about getting SimpleX at first but released I would use it for 1-2 days and then when the official app launches never use it again.

Unless there is a specific feature of SimpleX that is unique that I have missed?

iOS AirPlay will keep me going until launch.

Anyone else have the issue where when they are airplaying from the Plex app and press the play/pause button after pausing it only plays a single frame rather then resuming play? I have to click the touch pad to resume. Odd.

It’s only $2.99, I’m rewarding the SimpleX developer for doing a great job by following guidelines and getting his app released on launch day. There’s nothing wrong with promoting competition. It’ll benefit the official PLEX app users because if SimpleX gains traction, it’ll force the official devs to work harder.

I tried using AirPlay on the official PLEX iOS app and it causes the audio on all movies to be about 1-2 seconds off sync.

How exactly do I get AirPlay working? The only thing I could see to sending to was a Chromecast.
