Plex App on NEW Apple TV App Store

How exactly do I get AirPlay working? The only thing I could see to sending to was a Chromecast.

It’s stupid. The PLEX support site says to use the actual audio out selection on the iOS control panel when you swipe up from the bottom of the screen.

So swipe up, then choose AirPlay instead of iPhone as the output.

Then go back to the PLEX app and hit play.

After that, when you choose the audio output on the PLEX app itself, you’ll see a little AirPlay icon next to the iPhone.

Anyone else have the issue where when they are airplaying from the Plex app and press the play/pause button after pausing it only plays a single frame rather then resuming play? I have to click the touch pad to resume. Odd.

Is AirPlay working for you? It’s got an audio delay for me.

Ah got it, thank you!

Been working fine for me. Haven’t noticed any audio lag at all. Also to AirPlay stuff from Plex when in the app you can tap on the cast icon in the upper right, and when you list of devices shows up the device you are playing on (in this case an iPhone or iPad) should have an AirPlay icon to the left of the check mark and to the right of the device name. I hope that makes sense.

Does the new ATV give you the option to name your device, ie Living room, as if it works well i intend to get 1 for the living room, bedroom and kids room, and that is one thing that could cause an issue.

I just checked, and yes it does. There are like 8 preset names to choose from like living room or bedroom or you can create a custom name if you want something else. It’s in the AirPlay menu of the Apple TV settings.

I purchased SimpleX and I am disappointed because when you click on the movie it doesn’t show you the details about the movie. It seems the only way I could get the movie to play was after selecting it to hit the play button. Also I could not get any TV shows on my Plex server to play. Only the home tab provides movie icons. The movie and TV tabs provide options to sort differently but the cursor does not seem to move into an area where you can select anything so those features do not seem to work properly. I think the author submitted the app too early and it does not appear fully functional. I give it two stars. One for being able to see my movies and one for being able to play a movie.

Yea absolutely fine mate. No lag. I’ve just been sliding up and selecting AirPlay in control centre (not mirror.)

And, FWIW, having Speediest on the ATV is awesome for troubleshooting video streaming. I’m getting 200+mbit over my AC wireless. I think I can finally stream from Plex at full quality.

I wonder why it works perfectly for some (like me) but not others. We’re all runnng the same hardware.

Yeah very odd - I actually have been testing SimpleX for the past 2 weeks and haven’t had any of these issues. Works rock solid for me.

Really?

I don’t want to get an Apple TV only to find the app is not approved.

I’m pretty sure it’s a safe bet, just a matter of when.

I’m just curious as I’m looking for a plex app for another livingroom… would you rate your atv4 plex app over PMP… (just intrigued, currently running PMP from a macmini - love it)

It’s a matter of opinion, I suspect. PMP of course has high end features around bit-streaming audio and refresh rate switching which are important (nay, critical) for high end a/v people. The ATV doesn’t offer those things (and likely will continue not to).

From the perspective of ease of use, it feels like an built natively for the platform, so if you find the platform in general usable and nice, you’ll love the app

I prefer the old metal remote most of the time, probably will continue to use it except where the new one is actually required.

I still think the new remote is great, and will become very important. To me the old one is a masterpiece!

@elan, am I right to assume Plex will be available in the UK store too when Apple finally get round to accepting?

I would have thought so

Hey guys. How do I turn off notifications? I thought I did, however I’m still getting updates. I woke up to like 20 email updates from this thread. I like updates but that’s a little excessive lol.

Or can I not because I’m OP?

stupid apple approval. i’m sure they’re getting a huge flood of requests but damn guys. approve this already.
