Plex App on NEW Apple TV App Store

All my 1080i@50 files have a black screen while audio works.
Any chance to get that fixed?

I think you might be better off moving questions like this info the offical forum. This is now a bit of a mega thread so easy for things to get lost. There is a sticky post in that forum that lists the type of debug info needed to help diagnose this sort of thing.

Can someone please describe how well (if at all) Siri integration works with Plex on tvOS?

  1. Siri will not include Plex content in the universal search.
  2. During playback in Plex you can do things like “rewind X seconds”, “fast forward 5 minutes”, “what just happened?”. “What did he just say” does rewind the video a bit but doesn’t turn on subtitles.
  3. Anything on-screen with a text label can be jumped to with siri. For example, if you’re at the top of your list of all movies and say “Zombieland”, it will jump to that movie.

Subtitles Bug?

I seem to be having issues with subtitles. The subtitles work for movies, but they don’t work for TV shows. There does not even appear to be an option to turn subtitles on when playing a TV show, but the subtitles option appears when viewing movies.

Is this right, or am I doing something wrong?

I nearly have the same problem. I can select a srt subtitle in the menu but the subtitles are not displayed.

Plex Team delivered a great app. Looks nice i feel a little bit sorry for the Simplex guys …

Two issues i ran into, subtitles doesn’t seem to work for me neither and i have problems scrolling TV Shows which i can scroll trough without any problems with the Simplex app.

But design is great and speed is nice, i am looking forward using it when at least subtitels are running.

It’s weird.

With Movies - depending on how I navigate into the movies, the subtitles option appears (other times it does not). - However the subtitles do appear if I play a movie.

With TV shows - The option to display subtitles sometimes does not even appear (swiping down on the trackback only reveals Info and Audio). No subtitles appear even when I select to have subtitles turned on in Settings.

Any help would be great!

I also have the subtitles bug. They only play on movies not on TV shows.

are you guys all trying to select your subs before playing the eps (aka, from the Pre-Play screen in the settings menu) - which works fine for me or… from the dropdown whilst the ep is playing (which doesn’t work for me, but I don’t expect it to given the eps are transcoding, and the subs are burnt into the stream so they can’t be changed mid stream) ?

I tried selecting subs in the pre-play screen (in settings). They work fine for movies but not TV shows.

Have you been able to play sub in TV shows? As mentioned, it works fine for movies (even when I select from the drop down when the movie is playing), but not for TV shows. The subtitles option does not appear in the drop down when playing a TV show.

I can select .srt/pgs or vobsub subs for the pre-play screens for both movies and TV eps, and both play fine.
I can’t select .srt/pgs or vobsub subs from the drop down for either movies or TV eps (there is not a Subtitles menu for either)

In the case of vobsub and pgs they are embedded in mkv files. All the .srts are manually downloaded sidecar subs. I’ve not tried any .srt subs downloaded by any agent that are located in the metadata library (i don’t think i have any)

PMS .9.12.18 x64 on ubuntu 14.04.3 server.

I selected the subs before playing in the settings menu, but still no subs whilst the episode is playing.

That’s bizarre. Most of my subtitle files are .srt files as well, but I can select them when using the drop down menu (as seen in photo 2 in my above post) for movies, but not for TV shows (photo 3 where there is no subtitles option in the drop down).

I still can’t get any subs to work for TV shows. I might try an ATV reboot and see if that fixes anything. I’ll post back if it does.

EDIT: Just did a reboot of the ATV and the Plex Server and still no change. It is definitely a bug. I have found that the ‘Settings’ option sometimes appear and sometimes does not appear for TV shows.

If I navigate to a TV show using the “Discover” option or “Unwatched” - The settings option appears (as per below).

However if I navigate to the same TV show using “All” - the settings option does not appear

Not sure what is going on.

In which case, I think they’ll find a lot of this info very helpful.

It is definitely a bug because my other plex apps (Amazon Fire TV, Samsung Smart TV) are playing the same subs without any problems.

@ Elan: Thank you so much. Looks like the app is great. It is worth the money spent on an Apple TV.
Will only be able to download the App in 6 hours, so I have to be patient.
Just some short questions to whom it may concern:
In the very beautiful screenshots - I do not see much info on the file: Can I find at anywhere (like mkv/mpf, / fps / audio possibilites, video quality)? I cannot find it in the new iPhone-app, so I am a bit worried.
Otherway, what kind of file would you recommend? Still only mp4 (looks like)? Only 60 frames per second? Would like to avoid to work to much with handbrake…

@elan

…can you confirm whether Plex server/client can handle EAC3?

Thanks!

I just confirme my purchase!!!, a 64 Gb one.
Thanks @Elan and all the staff for all the PLEX Universe!!.
Tomorrow will be with me…

They can be changed midstream in PlexWeb, which requires transcoding / burning in (just a minor delay while it restarts), so it seems unlikely that the backend is where that problem exists.

Is anyone else unable to change the audio tracks under the settings tab for an individual movie? I’m unable to do this with every single title in my library.

Have you gone into the Audio options and changed it from “auto” to “Dolby Surround”? I ask as I had not done that. Prior to doing that I wasn’t getting ac3 5.1 sound, and the ac3 5.1 audio track could not be selected.

Consensus in my house is that this iteration of Plex is the best interface we’ve used. Well worth the cost of the new Apple TV. Thanks again!

Love the App! Looks great and uniform with the TViOS interface!
Now if only you could figure out how to play 24p content properly;)
