Plex App on NEW Apple TV App Store

This is great news but the app doesn’t work for me. It says my server “needs update”. I have updated my server a couple of times now and I’m still getting “needs update”. Simplex however, works great.

Any thoughts?

Same problem :frowning:

You need the latest PMS version 0.9.12.18

ah - Synology’s latest version is 0.9.12.3. Guess I’ve got another update to wait for. Any ideas when this is likely to be?

Just manually install it - you can grab the package from the http://Plex.tv download page.

You, sir, are a legend. Downloading now. Thanks!

How do we get the Rotten Tomatoes ratings to show like I’ve seen in some of the screenshots?

By now everyone already realizes that the new Apple TV doesn’t handle DTS/DTS-MA. But my question is how much cpu power does the audio transcoding really take on the plex server? And is the sound quality a lot worse?

You need the latest version of PMS, use the Freebase agent for Movies and refresh your library (although it should show RT rating for your recently added movies IF everything is setup correct.)

They just seem to randomly apply. I have them on about 20% of my movies.

Cheers for the replies.

Doesn’t seem to work for me. All of the above as suggested. They don’t appear on the iOS app either.

EDIT: The only way I can get it to work is by moving Freebase above TheMovieDB. But that badly messes up the cast list - which I believe is a known Freebase problem. So don’t think I’ll bother with the Rotten Tomatoes ratings.

Maybe I’m just not seeing it, but is there a quick way to move between Plex servers? I have two servers, one for Movies and one for TV Series and can’t see any other way other than going into settings and changing the server - not very user friendly for the missus…

Is there a way to display content from both servers like the current PHT client? or easily switch between the servers on the ATV4 client?

Really nice work! I love it.
Nevertheless, the app doesn’t seem to be localized. Only 10% of the texts are in French, and everything else is in English. Too bad, but I’m confident that this will be fixed in the coming releases.
Keep on the good work Plex team!

You’re getting too forgiving

Nah. As @elan mentioned in the blog post. If it weren’t for the rebuilt iOS app. They wouldn’t of had the base coding for the tvOS app to work with and it might not of arrived this soon!

I didn’t mind the old app. Just lacked PlexHome.

:stuck_out_tongue:

8th in the charts now!

Well, bit trickier. Currently, The DTS-HD will never be used, it’ll just use DTS-core track, aka, its just seen as normal DTS. As apple hates DTS, PMS just transcodes DTS into AC3 before sending to the ATV, so it would be treated by the ATV4 as an AC3 5.1 input. This assumes your PMS is on a device which can perform the DTS transcode in the first place.

There is new an option here for the Plex guys now that the ATV4 can take an EAC3 7.1 input, of having PMS transcode the DTS-HD track into an EAC3 7.1 track and using that, but I am making an assumption here that all the downstream code they need to do that exists and that EAC3 7.1 can be input over HLS. (how the data is transmitted to it by all methods other than direct play)

If you want your 2 channel stuff to stay 2 channel = auto
If you don’t care about 2 channel stuff, and have 7 speakers = auto
if you don’t care about 2 channel stuff, and have 5 speakers = flip a coin.
If you don’t care about 2 channel stuff, and want your 5.1 channel stuff to not go through a process to create 2 additional channels = dolby surround.

Hah I have 5.1 and don’t care about 2-channel stuff staying 2-channel so I’ll flip a coin! Thanks for the information! It was very insightful.

what version have you upgraded to? 0.9.12.18 is the latest.

I know, but my drobo won’t let me me manually update. its an issue with my Drobo5N. I can’t play videos on anything other than PHT running on my laptop now. I don’t know why.

Love the app. Only issue that’s bugging me so far is the need to hit ‘Reload’ after finishing a TV ep to update the Deck, to then start the next one. Don’t remember having this issue on Amazon Fire TV.

is none besides me interested in details of the media-file? don´t you miss the information if it is mkv or mp4 in the new apps-versions? I am missing it…

Plex is as you surely know already out in the ATV 4 app store :). But no, no 4k playback…
