is none besides me interested in details of the media-file? don´t you miss the information if it is mkv or mp4 in the new apps-versions? I am missing it…
I’m sorry, it’s just you.
Honestly, as long as it plays clean for me, I don’t care what sort of file it is.
If I’m that curious, I go to the server and ask it what it’s playing for me.

Currently, The DTS-HD will never be used, it’ll just use DTS-core track, aka, its just seen as normal DTS. As apple hates DTS, PMS just transcodes DTS into AC3 before sending to the ATV, so it would be treated by the ATV4 as an AC3 5.1 input. This assumes your PMS is on a device which can perform the DTS transcode in the first place.
Ok. But one thing that’s not clear to me. If you set the ATV4 to Auto and play a 5.1 DTS-MA track, will it be transcoded to 5.1 LPCM track and output by the ATV? Same for a 7.1 DTS-MA track, will it be transcoded to a 7.1 LPCM track and output by the ATV?
For me, this would be a good solution/compromise, it would be better than converting to AC3 in my opinion as you preserve all of the original loseless channels.

From what I’ve read, LPCM 5.1/7.1 was expected to be supported by ATV4 but it’s currently not. Hopefully somebody else can confirm or give additional information.
I was originally upset by the lack of DTS-MA and Dolby TrueHD support, but it sounds like if LPCM 7.1 was supported then we would essentially have “lossless” support but the Plex Media Server would be performing the decoding instead of our receivers?
So after a couple of days with Plex on the ATV4 I have come to the conclusion that no matter how nice the App looks and how well everything works, the lack of 24P playback is not something I can live with. I don’t really understand all the posts over lack of support for Multi Chanel audio if you can’t even watch 1080P content without judder free playback!? I would take mono audio any day if it would bring me judder free playback.
I know that it is an Apple TV hardware limitation but I don’t really see the point of developing for a platform that will never be able to play video properly.

What do you mean you can’t watch 1080P content? Not sure what device you bought but Here I am with my atv4 watching everything in 1080P?
I agree with you Erlin. This is often what upsets me so much about Apple.
How difficult would it have been to implement 24 Hz playback and HD audio bitstreaming? It’s been done before and every Bluray player supports it so I’m going to assume it wouldn’t take year(s) to implement.
I believe that Apple doesn’t want to become a “HTPC” and a place to be used for playing ripped content and that’s the reason why we will never see support for these features, but I will keep hoping.
I also recently purchased an Nvidia Shield TV. It works with Kodi, 24 Hz, HD audio, and is incredibly fast. However, it uses Android TV which has very, very few applications. Apple TV (4th generation) is brand new and appears to have 10x the content Android TV has. It’s unfortunate because instead of having one really great streaming box, you still require two (one for local content playback, and another for the other applications).
Picking up mine tomorrow, I can live without 24p for now, was using a mac mini just for Plex HTPC what a waste! Have a dedicated server (WIndows) so I am looking forward to retasking the MacMini
Just a fyi—the TWIT TV channel does not play on the PLEX app for the Apple TV4 although the program lists are displayed (but the TWIT channel for PLEX is not really needed anymore because there is a TWIT app for ATV4).

The ATV4 is unable to play back 1080P at 24Hz! Which means any BluRay rip (the only real source for true 1080P content!). Sure it plays back 1080P content from Netflix and iTunes but those are hardly true HD sources. If you can’t see the difference between Netflix/iTunes media and a BluRay disk, you should consider yourself lucky;)
For what its worth there are ways around it in PHT on a MacMini but the Mini and the DAS attached to it were making a bit too much noise for me to have them next to my TV.
I have been using a RaspberryPi2 in the meantime. It plays all my content back perfectly.

What work around on PHT on a Mac Mini for playing 24P content? I thought the Mac Mini was able to play 24P content using PHT anyway?
First post here. Came just to say that we have been using Plex for tvOS since it came out in the past week and absolutely love it. Just awesome. Beautiful UI, super smooth and fast navigation, lovely details. Thanks a lot for the app!

This is a long thread so forgive me if this question has been asked already…
Are there plans to incorporate an Apple AirPlay option in to the PLEX IOS app much as there is a Chromecast option? I don’t have an ATV3.
You can already do this today. From your iPhone or iPad, just flip up from the bottom to bring up the Apple Airplay menu, click on it, select an Air Play destination, then go to Plex app and start a video. It works perfectly. I just used it 15min ago myself.

Just gave that a try, perfect thanks. TBH I didn’t realise that any content on a iPhone can be cast using that method, just thought you could only use AirPlay if the app itself provided it, I learnt something!

Yup, it works with most apps that use a media player (i.e. music or video). But in the case it doesn’t, you can still use Air Play mirroring, under the Air Play menu, a radio button will appear “mirror”, you can just turn it on and everything on your iPhone (the entire display) will be cast, even if it’s not supported by the app.
Plex now running in my Apple TV.
Runs faster than the one in my Mac Mini (2009). Gorgeous looking, quick response. T
eam you make me (again) feel happy to belong to the PLEX family for the last 5 years, and waiting for more!!!
Thanks a lot!!!
