Player Version#:
I have a Plex server running locally on my network. I can access it from Firefox on a different computer as well as 4 year old Roku with no problems. After installing the Plex app on a Fire TV Cube purchased at Christmas, 2019, I am unable to browse the media files on my server. The Plex app recognizes the server but Alexa says “no new files have been loaded recently” and displays no files. I can search for a media file which I know is on the server and the Plex app will then show, and play, all the media files for that particular TV show…such as all episodes for Arrow, or Evil, etc. But, after leaving the search screen, the screen showing files on the server is blank again.
1 - That is an old server version. Please update.
2 - Please be specific on the version of the app running on the Fire TV. You can find this by going into the settings, it will be shown on the bottom right.
Alexa and the app run independently of each other. Alexa does not control the app. It can send a stream from your server to the app for playback, but what you see in the app is independent of Alexa.
Ok, so this sounds like the app is connected to the server, but the home page is blank. That could just mean you didn’t configure the home page when you first loaded the app. Do you see a “more” option at the bottom on the list along the left. Click that, do you see your server and libraries now?
Well, the problem solved itself. Apparently it took several hours for the Plex server and the Plex app on the FTVC to sync. I finally got media listings after about 18 hours!
