Plex APP on Roku hangs at 33% when loading many of my personal movies

I’m running my home Plex Media server on a Nvidia Shield Pro. This happened a few months ago, many of the larger file format (1080P) movies won’t start to play, they hang at 33%. This only happens on my Roku devices. It works fine if I’m watching on my Windows 11 PC using Chrome or on my bedroom TV which has the LG OS. The other TVs are all Rokus.

I was able to make some setting changes on one Roku and it let me play one movie that had hung before. However, I tried the same thing on the other Roku, it didn’t help. The change I made was:
Go to setting in Plex on Roku. Then under video, change direct play to force.

I tried other 1080P movies and they won’t play on either Roku,

I’ve had a ticket open with Nvidia for awhile, they responded they didn’t know, but to factory default the Shield and try again. That is too much work to just try. Also, since the movies play in Windows and on the LG OS TV, I don’t see that being the problem.

Note my movies are attached via USB to my Netgear Nighthawk.

As a test, I just used the built-in Vizio Plex app, instead of using the Roku Plex app on the same TV. The Vizio Plex app played the video just fine.

We quit using the Vizio apps as the TV is a few years old and the Apps would be slower and hang. However, in this case, it was better than the Roku Plex app.

Again showing this is a Roku Plex app issue.
