Plex app on sony bravia lose content from PMS on NAS synology

It has been quite some months now that almost every other day the Plex App on my TV Sony Bravia lose the connection with the Plex Media Server on my Synology DS218. At first I thought that it happened only after an official released update (either of the plex app or the PMS) but this is definitively not the case). The only way to fix this every time is :

  1. unistall the PMS from the server.
  2. install the official PMS 1.18.5.2309 officially listed in the nas
  3. upgrade to the latest version of the PMS.
    after this when I open the plex app on my tv, I need to go to other media and pin again in the home the various folders on my nas I added to plex (fortunately I don’t have to add all of them again to the PMS)

is there a way to fix this issue, which is rather annoying?

It is a known issue with the Android TV 9.2 client. Plex is aware of it and working on a fix.
Edit: In 9.3 beta, released earlier today.

Log out / Log in on the Plex Android TV app. That will re-establish the connection with the server.

You may want to hold off on re-pinning the libraries until a fix is available. Alternately, you could sideload the 9.3 beta or 9.1 release on your TV.

Uninstalling / re-installing Plex Media Server on the Synology is not required.

thanks @FordGuy61 ! I am glad that a fix is on the way… I did not know I could install a beta without unistalling the official 9.2 plex app… is there a guide for this? I am not even sure how to install a beta app on my smart tv…
I have always thought that is was a problem on the PMS… I decided to look into the plex player instead today…

Google “sideload Android” and you’ll get a lot of hits.

I’ve sideloaded to a Nvidia Shield, Amazon FireStick, & Pixel 3.

I use the Downloader app. You do have to enter the URL for the file you want to install, which is a pain using a remote control. Use a URL shortener service such as bitly.com (there are many) to make the process much easier.

I’m not sure which version of the app runs on a Sony TV. Most likely the Google Play arm64v8a (64-bit) or armv7a (32-bit). The x86 versions are for devices with Intel processors.

The basic approach is:

  1. Allow apps from non-authorized locations in the Android OS settings. This tells the system you’ll be installing an app manually, not via the app store.
  2. Uninstall the current app, if allowed.
  3. Use Downloader to install desired version.
  4. Launch & login.

Sideloaded apps do not auto-update. You’ll have to side-load again to install an update, different version, etc.

To get back on the regular release train, just delete the sideloaded app and install from the app store.

thank you, @FordGuy61, I finally installed the official Plex Player App 9.3, after a recent update of my Sony Bravia TV. But the problem is still there… I try to logout from the plex player app and login but still my media on the nas is not recognized.
by the way, when I try to login into the plex app, to I have to digit the 4 letter code into the browser of my pc by going to the link Link | Plex or do I have to digit them in the NAS itself in some way (which I am not aware of)?

Go to plex.tv/link using a browser on your PC, login to your Plex account, and enter the 4 digit code. That will authorize your TV.

I’ve also used the Chrome browser on my Android phone to enter the code.

Do not exit the Plex Android TV app. It has to be running with the code displayed on-screen for the authorization to work.
