Plex Arcade MAME Input Reset

Hi,

Firstly, I am absolutely loving that Plex Arcade has made it possible to play emulator ROMs on mobile devices and browsers. Thank you and keep up the good work on refinement!

I am wondering:

  1. how I can reset the Input Controls in the MAME menu for Input “General” and “This Machine”. Setting buttons for functions just seems to collect more mappings with no clear way to reset the mapping to default. On a PC, this would normally be ESCape but things like iOS and controllers don’t have this key, obviously.

  2. What the precise set of game controller buttons are to bring up the MAME menu. Currently I mash a bunch of buttons and it comes up. I can’t seem to find the combination.

Thanks!

I was about to answer both those with, you can’t yet…

But the you somehow got the mame menu up? Interesting, time for me to experiment!

Yeah, we tried to prevent the MAME menu from coming up because we figured it would confuse people. @GlennPegden and others have pointed out the utility of such a menu, I’m curious to know what specifically you’re looking to edit in there.

Changing input controls (map B to X instead, etc) and for the instant gratification people in the crowd, cheats, but that requires a separate file alongside the ROM if I recall correctly.

However, some games have difficulty and number of lives settings built in so that’s handy in the same way too (e.g. Ghosts n Goblins).

And I mean, generally, this offering appeals to technically minded folks and technical people wanna tinker where they can.

Screen Orientation is the big one, mostly for games where the physical screen is normally mounted in the cabinet vertically rather that horizontally or where the game defaults to table top mode (so player 2 is inverted). Less commonly some games need you to flip a dipswitch after power on to start up.

Of course things like control remapping, cheats and history.dat the cherry on top of the cake.

I WONDERED why I couldn’t pull it up. Yeah, if that could be a hidden feature, that would be great. I tried to play Robotron 2084, a game that uses 2 joysticks. One of my joysticks on the X-Box controller (on my PC) moved me, but I could only fire left, because joystick 2 was non-responsive.

Also Crazy Climber, another 2 joystick game, kinda sorta worked.
