So I have had my unlimited plex pass for a while now, and I am aware that that is now grandfathered in and can no longer be acquired. So my collection of movies and shows exceeds 30tb. alone, plus like 400gb of music. I have used My plex server to facilitate roughly a dozen family and friends in the Cincinnati area. On top of that, I travel a lot and have accessed my server from at least 8 states on numerous hotel TV’s and accessible hardware wherever I was with little to no issues ever. That is specifically why I invested in the Plex pass to begin with. Now to the title of this topic… So I have collected emulators and ROMs since the mid 90’s, going all the way back to Nesticles. That said, I think anyone with a decent imagination can grasp the amount of content I already have. I currently use Retroarch, just FYI. So when I heard that I can integrate my ROMS into Plex, I was ecstatic…That is until I pursued that idea. Unfortunately I was stopped in my tracks when I figured out that the only legit way is by paying a monthly fee. Now before anyone jumps the gun at what I am about to say, I understand that casual retro fever for those that are not enthusiasts as myself, this would be a great scenario. However, (remember in my case I have lifetime plex pass already) I do not want or need any of the content that would be supplied by plex. I totally agree with a fee based system to provide that service, but all I want to do is add my collection to my already in place library of media. So why cant we have the agility to add that content we already poses with possibly the ability to use our own emulators??? Literally, in my position, I already paid my dues, I want no content provided, yet to add my own content to my own library and use the media-server function that is already in place, I have to pay monthly… Am I the only one this does not make sense to?
The subscription fee isn’t just about the included games; Plex licenses the streaming technology (Parsec) it uses to provide the functionality on a per-user/per-month basis (check out the few posts above the one linked for some additional context). It probably wouldn’t make sense for non-Plex Pass subscribers to subsidize subscribers. Plex Pass subscribers are entitled to a discount though.
