Plex Arcade setup issues

Server Version#: 1.21.2.3939 (Mac)
Player Version#:

So i tried setting up arcade (which took ages to register for btw as the page wasn’t responding).

Once i had the new server update and setup a few GBA roms with the core i could load the game but it was very choppy. Looking at the (scarce) info on setup I saw the comments on the need for a good video card and so setup a new server on my windows machine and connected to my same account. I wasn’t able to load anything from the new games library as plex was complaining that i didn’t have a subscription to arcade (I was logged in with the same account and can see both servers and libraries when logged in).

It seems plex arcade doesn’t like me having 2 plex servers on 2 different machines with the same account. I can’t see any way to “deregister” the other server besides deleting the games library - which i did and no joy.

Also the iOS app doesn’t show the games library (i tried on 2 devices).

I was able to load the games library on a firetv but when launching the games the screen stayed black but i could hear audio - assume this is due to the video card being incompatible.

All in all, exciting prospect and I’d love to be able to use it if i could work out how. Not sure I’d pay the extra for it yet (doesn’t work). I’ve used and paid for plex for around 10 years now and always been happy to pay for plex pass

I wasn’t able to load anything from the new games library as plex was complaining that i didn’t have a subscription to arcade

I suspect there’s an issue responding to subscription changes. If so, it would be fixed by restarting PMS, refreshing Plex Web, quit/restart iOS/Android.

I’m suspecting this is due to the iOS app being < version 7.12. Although there’s always a chance something else is at play.

We’re receiving similar reports from other users. Which sort of graphics card is this?

Thanks for the quick reply i can’t seem to quote on my iPad but to answer your questions

  1. I’ll try closing the PMS on my MAC and restarting the win PMS and seeing if that allows me to run launch the roms
  2. Weirdly plex was up to date when i tried this (like an hour ago) but I’ve just checked now and there was an update available so it’s now showing the games library
  3. i was trying to launch via the MAC PMS and that is a 2014 Mac mini with integrated intel GPU. The win PMS is with a radeon 570 so will try that next when i can get the account stuff working

Thanks again

I was able to get it working once I shut down the mac PMS.

I can play all of the atari games but GBA won’t work - getting error “The game transcoder exited unexpectedly.
Error code: 8005 (Game Server)”

Quit plex and restarted still no joy. The atari games always work even after trying GBA.

I’m using mgba_libretro

Great! Thanks for the restart feedback. I’ve included it in our notes to track down.

8005 is typically a signal that the emulation core crashed the server component managing it. I’m running mgba_libretro too, although on macOS. @onionsaregross ran into bios issues with GPSP over at Plex Arcade? - #207 by onionsaregross but was also able to get mgba_libretro kicking.

Remaining options:

  • Try another GBA core :crossed_fingers:
  • Or, it’s way in the weeds but, checkout your Plex Media Server.log after running a game. You’ll see a line in there for JOB RUNNING where we invoke the game transcoder. That command can be copied out, edited, then ran from the Terminal. It’ll provide output that may hint to the crash’s cause.

OK i managed to stop the error happening but now i’m getting a black screen. I updated the radeon drivers but still not working. I’ve installed SNES core and roms as well and the same thing happens. I switched to a different GBA core and also black screen. The Arcade and Atari roms work fine. I’ll have a go at running the terminal command and see if i can get any info on what’s going on

I ran the transcoder via command prompt trying to run the last SNES game i can see in the plex log per below.

I’ve attached the plex game transcoder log and it just seems to stop - doesn’t show the name of the rom or anything that it should be running.

If you look at one of the old log files (log 2) you can see where it did run a MAME or Atari rom successfully there’s more data in the log file.

OK i seem to have got it working now. It seemed to have been a combination of the cores i was using, plus the fact the roms were zipped. I’ve added them to the plex games directory unzip and they seem to run OK now and even stream to ipad which is great.

Final problem now is the transcoder hangs every time i close a game so i need to end the task before opening another game. Have to test more but seems to happen on all GBA games and SNES. I’m using mGBA and bsnes balanced cores.

Hi, new to the forum so hopefully this shows up in the right place.

I setup arcade on my desktop as directed and with no problems, but when I try to stream a game the screen goes black. However, it appears the game has been running because when I stop it and try again, it asks me if I want to resume from where I left off. My desktop has an Intel i7-4770 which isn’t on Parsec’s list of driver requirements, so I fired up my laptop which has an Intel i7-8550U (on the list) and directx12. Still, all I get is a black screen when I try to play a game.

Any suggestions?

this bug is on the list to be :skull_and_crossbones: pronto.

Thanks for the update - will keep an eye out and may sign up again later when the bugs are ironed out cheers!

Have you figured out a remedy to the transcoder hanging? Everytime I back out of a game, I have to essentially start everything over.

if this is on windows, we have a fix in the next release for this :crossed_fingers:

Hi for me the issue is when i try with pc or iphone 8 it works fine but when i try with fire tv stick 4k the screen still black the strange thing is i can hear sound of the game but no video.

My issue is similar to sky2xno. Plex Arcade is working in the web client and on my Android phone, but when I try to play games on Fire TV, I get a black screen, but I can hear the game audio. Graphics card is AMD Radeon 550 with the latest drivers on Windows 10.

(Fire TV / Android TV issues are being worked on.)

I’m having the blank screen issue with Mac server on AppleTV. Tried to adjust all settings and no luck. Games do, however, play just fine on a Chrome browser.

hmm, just to be clear the exact same game works on Chrome, but gives a black screen on Apple TV? that would be highly unexpected  do you get sound on Apple TV?

I can get Plex Arcade to work on iOS iPhone and iPad but no luck with my fire stick I can hear sound its glitchy but there, but fire stick is a black screen.

I dont seem to be able to get games to run on iOS (iPad) when I’m outside my network. Seems to work fine on my android phone though. Plex client on iPad shows game as unavailable when you select a game to display info.
