Not sure when this started. Noticed recently that the genre “Pop/Rock” is labeled for over 200 artists, many of which aren’t “Pop/Rock”, and I know the Genre tags aren’t that either.
This can be seen on the web gui when I sort by genre, but easier to see via plexamp.
This is normal. With default library settings, you get 80% Pop/Rock.
The finer details are stored as “Style”.
If you want your embedded Genre meta tags to be used, you need to set this in the properties of the music library, on the Advanced tab.

I changed the library settings to embedded tags, but it didn’t seem to affect it. Maybe I didn’t give it enough time
Plex will only update this info after you have Refreshed Metadata on the artist.
There is also a Scheduled Task in Plex which will update this kind of stuff over time, but it can take longer. https://support.plex.tv/articles/201553286-scheduled-tasks/
