flickr is about to limit its free tier to 1000 photos and I am currently thinking about alternatives. Can I use plex to host photos and share them with people not using plex? Has anyone an opinion on the automatic tagging feature? The last time I tried it, I wasn’t too impressed with it.
Self hosted that I’ve tried and are decent
Many cloud storage options like NextCloud/Seafile do gallery views for images and you can create shareable links
For Plex they need to sign up for an account to access anything you share
Thanks a lot for the links. I am not sure if I really want to host another service in addition to plex, but I’ll give it a look. The Lychee link is outdated, this is the correct one:
Just in case anyone else looking at the software.
Here is a feature request to add the share photo feature to plex:
I used to dabble with photo hosting but on a shared hosting service. I still have it up but never use it anymore… Zen Photo is really good, but if I have there horsepower Gallery2 (maybe it has a different name now) used to be king. But it really needs more CPU than what dreamhost gave me.
Ps, dreamhost gives unlimited storage and bandwidth. I have thought about trying to use them as a reverse proxy for my Plex traffic… Just never dug in far enough.
Yeah, I had a feeling you were looking for alternatives that are free hosts but that’s getting locked down more and more these days. You’re only big name options are DeviantArt and instagram… unless you’re fine with imgur/photobucket style sites then those too.
