With Google Photos losing it’s free unlimeted tier we are looking for something to replace it. I already use Plex for “archival” storage of all my photos, but it has some small but serious failings when it comes to day-to-day photo management.
As I guess I’m not the only one in this situation maybe now would be a good time to get Plex fully up to speed as a home for all our photos / home videos. The current offering is 90% of the way there and with a few tweaks could start to be a really compelling option.
The key things that are missing (for me anyway):
Photo upload that doesn’t rename the photos
Face tagging
Multi-sharing from the android app (e.g. select four pictures and send them to grandma)
A better slideshow ( change speed and zoom in on a photo are the most wanted features)
Like I said, it’s almost there, just needs a little push to cross the line!
There are existing requests for most of your suggestions. Creating multiple threads for suggestions tends to split votes, reducing their impact. It’s better to add your vote and comments to the existing threads. It’s also better to keep to the guideline of one suggestion per thread. This makes it impossible for people to vote for individual suggestions.
There are suggestions for zooming in on photos, but I didn’t find one specifically linked to slideshows. If that was your intent, then your suggestion may be unique.
Maybe my post wasn’t clear then. The request isn’t for any of those features - they are just examples of the kind of thing that needs to be done. The request was a for a focus on the ‘photos’ part of plex specifically now in the runup to losing the free part of Google Photos. Maybe it doesn’t quite fit into the standard idea of a feature (it’s more of an Epic), but this is the part of the forum where people can vote on stuff, so I put it here.
